In this role, you'll support the delivery of our Individual Giving programme, which inspires individuals to support the charity. You'll focus on activities such as donor acquisition, retention, and income growth. This includes working on appeals, regular giving, in-memory donations, and legacies. You'll play an important part in helping us grow our donor base and build lasting relationships with our supporters. You will work closely with the Head of Income Generation to collaborate across the wider team to ensure our fundraising activities align with the charity's goals. This role is perfect for someone with some experience of individual giving or transferable skills who is eager to contribute to income growth, develop professionally, and make a real impact.

Main duties of the job

The Cheltenham & Gloucester Hospitals Charity supports the Trust's hospitals by raising, managing and distributing funds on behalf of Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

In this role, you'll support the delivery of our Individual Giving programme, which inspires individuals to support the charity. You'll focus on activities such as donor acquisition, retention, and income growth. This includes working on appeals, regular giving, in-memory donations, and legacies. You'll play an important part in helping us grow our donor base and build lasting relationships with our supporters. Your creativity and enthusiasm will help us develop innovative campaigns that resonate with our community and increase donor engagement.

You will work closely with the Head of Income Generation and Philanthropic Manager to collaborate across the wider team to ensure our fundraising activities align with the charity's goals. This role is perfect for someone with some experience in individual giving or transferable skills, such as account management and marketing, who is eager to contribute to income growth, develop professionally, and make a real impact.

Job responsibilities

Key Results Areas

- Lead and develop the charity's Individual Giving programme, focusing on acquiring new supporters, retaining existing donors, and increasing income through appeals, regular giving, in-memory donations, and legacy gifts.

- Create and oversee engaging campaigns and materials, such as appeals, newsletters, and acquisition initiatives, by crafting compelling copy and sourcing impactful content to connect with supporters.

- Collaborate with cross-departmental teams to plan, deliver, and evaluate integrated campaigns, ensuring effective execution across various channels, including direct mail, digital communications, and targeted appeals.

- Experienced in working with and using a fundraising CRM or similar, confident in exploiting data to inform strategic and operational responses and objectives.

- Utilise data analysis and donor segmentation to develop personalised stewardship plans that strengthen relationships, enhance loyalty, and maximise donor value.

- Support the development of a grateful patient programme in partnership with the Head of Income Generation to attract and engage new supporters.

- Working to develop and execute strategies for Gifts in Wills and In-Memory Giving, including promoting these giving methods, achieving targets, and ensuring sensitive communication within hospital environments.

- Foster relationships with potential supporters, steward and thank donors, engage staff as ambassadors, and utilise promotional campaigns like Make a Will Month to increase enquiries, pledges, and awareness of legacy giving.

- Showcase the significance of Gifts in Wills through case studies, events, and appropriate on-site, online, and media coverage, while establishing recognition mechanisms to thank donors and encourage further support.

- Work closely with the Head of income Generation and colleagues across the team to encourage the wider promotion of individual giving income streams and appeals to the public and staff. Analyse results of activities and keep in touch with wider charity trends to inform planning.

- Build a network of contacts in similar roles in other NHS charities, informing best practice and collaborating to create success.

- Ensure stewardship and cultivation opportunities are maximised through use of the charity CRM system, with processes in place to personalise the donor experience and supporters encouraged to join our communication channels.

- Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, including the Fundraising Regulator and Charity Commission.

- Ensure that all cash handling, banking, donor acknowledgement and receipts issued via the charity team are in accordance with current procedures.

Marketing and Communications

- Work closely with the Marketing and Communications Officer to design innovative and engaging campaigns using digital channels, case studies and press releases.

- To work closely with the Marketing and Communications Officer and external designers, to create content which motivates supporters and staff and explains clearly the information they need to know.

- Raise the charity profile and act as an ambassador at all times with internal and external stakeholders.

- To work with Fundraising and Communications colleagues to ensure all communications and relationships are well managed.

- To ensure that the hospitals, patients and staff, together with its values and ethos, are represented in all activities and not compromised through fundraising activity.

- To work productively with other departments and colleagues within the hospitals to ensure that fundraising activities are supported and representative of the organisation.

- Act as the fundraising point of contact when needed with patients &/or relatives in the hospital

- Contribute to the fundraising team development by attending meetings, training, and briefings as may be required.

- To undertake such other duties as may be required by the Head of Income Generation or Philanthropic and Individual Giving Manager.

- Ensure complete confidentiality of highly sensitive information.

- Some evening and weekend work will be required, with time off in lieu

Physical, Mental & Emotional Effort & Working Conditions

- The post is based in an office environment where minimal physical effort is required, except very occasionally providing assistance at fundraising events where minimal physical effort would be required

- Very occasional storage retrieval, or disposal of records is required

- VDU use is required and often for long periods

- Intense concentration is required to solve complex problems. Some interruption is likely due to occasional the direct contact with staff and supporters

- Contact with funeral directors and members of the public who wish to make a donation and who can sometimes be in a distressed and emotional state, following the death of a loved one
