Job summary

Here at Northamptonshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) we have a new opportunity for an enthusiastic and energetic Infection Prevention and Control Lead. This is a full-time, permanent position and the successful candidate will have responsibility for service and policy development, implementation, and surveillance of the Integrated Care System (ICS) in support of, and providing, assurance to the ICB. The post holder will provide Infection Prevention and Control advice to all employees of the and our System partners using a matrix approach.

The post holder will demonstrate strategic leadership and have management responsibility for the ongoing development and sustainability of a high quality and innovative infection prevention and control service across the ICB, ensuringlegal and statutory IPCrequirements and quality standards are in place, and will be responsible for monitoring compliancethroughout our services.

Applicants will be required to demonstrate relevant experience, expert &specialist knowledge in relation to IPC and hold a post registration qualification in IPC. They must also be willing to develop expertise in order to support immunisation, vaccination and screening programmes as required, therefore experience and understanding of the alignment of infection prevention and control with the quality and safety agenda is critical.

Main duties of the job

Working with the Heads of Service - Quality & Improvement, the post holder will be the day-to-day coordinator and clinical lead for the delivery of an effective, efficient, and quality service for the prevention, surveillance, and control of infection across the ICB, including both Community and Hospital settings. The post holder will provide IPC oversight with the Vaccination, Immunisation & Screening Programme for the ICB and will liaise with the Population Health Team to develop this workstream across the System.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Health Care Professional/ Nurse/ Midwife/AHP.
  • First level degree in health-related subject.
  • Specialist Qualification in Infection Prevention & Control.

Desirable

  • Educated to Master's level; in the process of doing so or have equivalent experience.

Experience

Essential

  • Considerable post registration experience, which must be at band 7 or equivalent in an Infection Prevention & Control capacity within a health/social care environment.
  • Highly specialist knowledge and ability to advise and influence specialist IPC teams in provider organisations.
  • Knowledge of legislation, national guidance and outcomes/indicators related to preventing and controlling infection in health and social care environments and facilities, the design, construction, and modification of the built environment. (Ventilation, water sources, waste management, decontamination).
  • Experience of working within a multi-agency setting.
  • Experience of risk management and contributing to quality assurance frameworks.
  • Experience of dealing with highly complex, sensitive, and difficult situations.
  • Experience of working with students.
  • Experience of leading and managing change.
  • Demonstrable leadership and management experience.

Essential

  • Ability to provide leadership, support and training in the development and delivery of training packages and education initiatives across the ICS. Credible clinician with knowledge of best practice in quality assurance processes.
  • An understanding of clinical governance, quality assurance, clinical effectiveness, quality improvement framework and service improvement frameworks.
  • Effective interpersonal skills in order to persuade, influence and negotiate in order to overcome barriers.
  • Excellent written communication skills, to include record keeping, report writing, data collection and evaluations.
  • Ability to chair and actively participate in meetings.
  • Ability to support others professionally. Lead the audit processes aligned to portfolio area.
  • Effective skills with IT utilising programmes to deliver a range of presentations
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Safeguarding Adults and Safeguarding Children agendas.
  • Understanding of cultural differences in quality and equality impact assessment.
  • Knowledge of contemporary HS issues.
  • An understanding of independent contractors and expertise in NHS contractual requirements aligned to quality.
