Renal Medicine (IMT1/2 equivalent)1 job for 12 months starting Aug 2025 Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust

This job provides an excellent opportunity to play an integral role in the development and delivery of an undergraduate teaching programme alongside clinical duties within a centre of excellence for Renal Medicine. The successful candidate will work within a well led environment, committed to supporting ongoing professional development. This post is ideal for those who:

  • Have completed foundation training

  • Are making the transition from core to specialist training and seeking to consolidate knowledge and experience

  • Have an interest in Medical Education

  • Suitable for FY3 yea

The post holder's role is to develop a series of learning activities that would augment the current in-person clinical activities and online teaching sessions delivered by the renal department to 4th year medical students at University College London medical school. The clinical commitment will be within the SHO level rota and include daytime working on the Nephrology wards, clinics and Renal Take. There is scope to expand the role to include on-call working, if the post holder desires.

The Royal Free Hospital Renal Department is a tertiary referral, academic renal unit providing renal services to North Central London. The post offers excellent clinical experience in dialysis, transplantation, chronic kidney disease and acute kidney injury (AKI).

Main duties of the job

  1. CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1.1 You must maintain acceptable clinical standards.

1.2 Principles of Clinical Governance must be an integral part of your clinical practice.

1.3 You will be expected to provide clear and concise documentation.

1.4 You will liaise with colleagues from other departments and specialties whose input may be needed for your patients.

2. EDUCATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES2.1 You will need to be able to provide a dedicated and approachable point of contact for medical students

2.2 You will need to provide support for the current teaching programme which includes small group sessions, lectures and bed side teaching

2.3 You will need to contribute to the development of a teaching clinic, which will need to be supplemented by the development of a library of audio and video library of clinic scenarios

2.4 You will take a leadership role in the development of simulation training focusing on common renal emergency scenarios

3.4 We have regular departmental meetings at which you will be expected to present any service improvement or audit work you may have undertaken

5.1 There are frequent educational meetings and opportunities for all trainees during the week, including topic teaching and case presentations.

5.2 There are also radiology meetings as well as MDT case meetings case meetings for you to attend

6.1 You are expected to comply with all trust policies concerning confidentiality and data protection

6.2 You will be responsible for any patient data you have access to, including handover sheets and other written or printed information

6.3 You are expected to comply fully with information resource policies, including internet use
