Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arose in our Adult Emergency Department for a band 6 Junior sister. Your role will involve working in Navigation, Flow and managing areas within the Emergency Department. Your role will involve promoting patient safety and acting as an advocate to your patients and staff. Your role will involve performance management and focus on the national performance targets within our Emergency Department. It is desirable that the candidate has Emergency Care experience.

Main duties of the job

The role will involve knowledge in Emergency Care as you will me managing teams and taking care of very sick patients, You must be confident in managing RESUS patients and have the skills to prioritise patients in order of clinical need. You will be involved in improving patient care and safety in the department and promoting dignity and respect. To be responsible and accountable for the safe, effective and compassionate nursing care for all patients in ward/department area. To exercise accountability as set out in the NMC Code To supervise, support and educate junior members of the team, acting as a role model Support ward/department manager to ensure organisational goals/objectives are met within ward/department

When taking charge of the department or in the absence of the department manager, is directly responsible for ensuring that clinical, professional and cleanliness standards are maintained in the entire department

To ensure effective communication internally and externally regarding patient care and resources

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Current NMC Registration (Level 1 adult nurse).
  • Degree in nursing studies or healthcare related subject or evidence of currently working towards this (UK equivalent).
  • Mentorship certificate/ Practice Assessor training or demonstrable equivalent experience.

Desirable

  • Management and leadership training.
  • ILM qualification.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience as a Band 5.
  • Experience of leading a team.
  • Evidence of innovation in practice.
  • Experience of coordinating a team in caring for patients from admission to discharge.

Desirable

  • Expertise within the speciality.
  • Experience of line management of staff.

Physical Skills

Essential

  • Ability to assist patients to move as per Trust Moving and Handling Policy.

Skills & Knowledge

Essential

  • Awareness of national health and social care policy
  • Knowledge of best practice in area of specialism.
  • Thorough understanding of expanded roles/professional practice issues.
  • Clinical teaching experience.
  • Ability to provide and receive complex, sensitive or contentious information, where persuasive, motivational, negotiating, training, empathic or reassurance skills are required.
  • Able to work without supervision.
  • Competent in the use of IT packages.
  • Proven interpersonal skills.
  • Evidence of competency in relation to nursing practices appropriate to the post.

Desirable

  • Understanding of budget and financial control systems.
