Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated nurse to lead the Complex Spinal Surgery Team at Barts Health. You will be a reliable and constant member of the Complex Spinal Surgery team, supporting patients and relatives through their whole care pathway and providing advice and guidance for patients after discharge. You will be expected to develop close links with A&E, ITU, HDU and the wards multi-disciplinary teams. There will be components of education, practice development, audit & research to the role.
We are looking for a Registered Nurse, with experience in acute neurosciences and spinal surgery. You will have experience of working autonomously and within a multi-disciplinary team, as well as a track record of implementing improvements to patient care through skillful nursing practice. You will be given the opportunity to be able to function both independently and under the supervision of the Complex Spinal Surgery consultants and provide leadership and professional accountability to the team of Spinal Clinical Nurse Specialists.

Main duties of the job
The Royal London Hospital is one of four major trauma Centres (MTCs) serving London and South-East England since 2010. It is home to the London air ambulance and is the most active of all the London MTCs, receiving approximately 10% of all major trauma in the UK. General trauma is covered by dedicated trauma surgeons and the Neuro-trauma service has been developed to complement this model. The work load amounts to 300-400 admissions per year.
The Complex Spinal surgery team is a highly specialized division of healthcare professionals working with the neurosurgery and orthopedics department. They are comprised of 8 consultant surgeons who deliver complex spinal surgery to patients and a team of clinical nurse specialists responsible for coordinating pre and post op care
To work as an advanced practitioner and effectively deliver an expert nursing service within the complex spinal service
To manage a caseload of patients/clients
To proactively co-ordinate and manage service provision
To ensure that patients and their families are fully informed and supported by providing clinical and social support
To assist in the development of evidence based clinical nursing practice in line with current research and guidelines
To establish clear lines of communication within the specialty team to ensure cohesive multidisciplinary management of patients
