Job summary

This is a 6 month fixed term post to work as a Locum Consultant within Emergency Medicine at UHNM in the Frailty Assessment Unit at County Hospital.

The unit provides holistic, specialised care for frail older patients presenting to County Emergency Department with an emphasis on admission avoidance.

You will work in a multidisciplinary team comprising ACPs, nursing staff, physiotherapist and social care. You will pull patients from the Emergency Department from all workstreams (majors, ambulatory and minors).

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership within the Frailty Assessment Unit at UHNM. You will be expected to work with other members of the Frailty Assessment team to provide first class clinical care in frailty same day emergency care at County Hospital. You will provide clinical leadership, including delivery of the Clinical Quality Indicators (CQI) for Frailty same day emergency care.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBCHB or equivalent
  • FRCEM or equivalent or working towards
  • ALS or equivalent
  • ATLS certification
  • APLS certification

Desirable

  • European Trauma course
  • Full GMC registration Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry via: - oCCT within 6 months of date of the AAC oCESR

Professional and Multidisciplinary Team Working

Essential

  • Thorough and detailed knowledge of medical audit, medical education, current clinical and medical best practice
  • Broad clinical experience within Emergency Medicine within the NHS

Desirable

  • Further skills in information technology

Academic Achievements, Research, Publications

Desirable

  • Undertaken complete audit cycle
  • Interest and awareness of research

Management and Administrative Experience

Essential

  • Experienced in demonstrating clinical procedures / techniques to other healthcare professionals
  • Appraisal and assessment training skills

Clinical Experience & Training

Essential

  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in relevant specialty
  • Broad clinical experience within Emergency Medicine
