Job summary

We are looking to appoint to a whole-Time (10 PA)Locum Consultant Spinal Surgeon to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust based at the Northern General Hospital, fixed term 12 months.

Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

We would welcome applications from candidates across the full spectrum of experience, from those who have recently completed training to those who have well-established careers.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will, together with Consultant colleagues be responsible for the provision of elective and emergency spinal surgery services at the Northern General Hospital site.

The successful candidate will work according to the terms and conditions of the national consultant contract.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Qualified medical practitioner
  • Registered (or eligible to be registered) with the GMC with a license to practice
  • FRCS (Tr &Orth) or equivalent
  • Name on the specialist register for relevant specialty or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview.

Clinical experience

Essential

  • Spinal Fellowship
  • Ability to work as an independent practitioner in the Spine Surgery.

  • Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate
