Job summary
We are seeking a compassionate, enthusiastic and dedicated individual to join our team as a Macmillan Community Cancer Engagement Officer at NHS Coventry and Warwickshire Integrated Care Board.
In this role, you will provide essential support and assistance to individuals, families and local community groups affected by cancer within the community.
Your primary responsibility will be to offer support, practical guidance, and information to help individuals and groups navigate their cancer journey more effectively by signposting to Macmillan Cancer Information Support hubs as well as other support networks.
You will also be responsible for raising awareness about cancer prevention and screening campaigns with the aim of targeting our most vulnerable communities and seldom heard groups.

Main duties of the job
To provide a person-centred approach that enables people affected by cancer to navigate the health, social care and wider systems to access practical, emotional and social support by promoting self-management and support for people to live well addressing their holistic needs during and after cancer treatment.
To work across organisational boundaries with partners to ensure the best possible outcomes for people affected by cancer.
To be responsible for proactively identifying the needs of people affected by cancer using Macmillan's Holistic Needs Assessment (HNA) tool to ensure individuals get the right support to meet their needs, offering the time to find out what matters to the individual and providing appropriate information and signposting to local services across Coventry and Warwickshire.

Job responsibilities
To establish and maintain trusting relationships with individuals and families affected by cancer. Provide emotional support, active listening, and encouragement to help individuals cope with the challenges of cancer diagnosis and treatment.
Offer practical guidance and information on available resources, services, and support groups in the community. Assist in coordinating and accessing healthcare services, appointments, and referrals as needed.
Collaborate with healthcare professionals, social workers, and community organisations to ensure holistic support for individuals affected by cancer. Coordinate events, workshops and outreach activities to reach out to those in need of support.
Maintain accurate and confidential records of interactions and services provided to people for monitoring and evaluation purposes.
Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance knowledge and skills in cancer care and support.
Contribute to regular team meetings and share ideas for improvement and shaping workshops, events and community engagement sessions.
Access to a vehicle as this role requires you to attend multiple venues, supporting groups and local forums.
Flexible working is required sometimes to support weekend or evening events, this depends on when and where local events are taking place.
Person Specification
Experience or transferable skills
Essential
- Significant experience of delivering community engagement or involvement projects.
- Educated to A level or equivalent level of experience of working at officer or coordinator level.

- Public facing and involvement experience
Desirable
- Excellent written skills and experience of working within a community engagement field.
