Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a maternity support worker to join our team at Bedford Hospital and Community services.

The role involves working across both the community and hospital bases, assisting the midwifery staff in providing care and support for women, their babies and their families.

This role is varied and rewarding and its a great chance to be part of a hardworking and close knit team working to promote individualised care specific to the needs of the woman and her baby, whilst supporting the midwife in their role.

Main duties of the job

This valued role uses additional skills to those of band 2 Maternity care assistant.

You will be focusing on aspects of maternity care to enhance the experiences of women and their families.

You will be working alongside, but under the guidance of practitioners at all levels from across the multidisciplinary team including, but not limited to midwives; obstetricians; ultra-sonographers; physiotherapists and advanced nurse practitioners.

To actively participate in the recognition and prevention of maternal illness and respond effectively in an emergency.

To assist mothers with postnatal exercises.

To arrange and process microbiological specimens.

To obtain maternal capillary blood sample for glucose analysis, in line with Trust policy and guidelines.

To independent undertaking venepuncture in line with national standards and local policy.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ level 2 qualification in health care
  • 5 GSCE or equivalent including maths and english
  • Care certificate

Desirable

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Package Knowledge of CMIS, , ICE and iPM software
  • NVQ level 3 or equivalent
  • Communication skills qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience in health care setting

  • Previous experience in midwifery setting
  • Previous experience of working in teams
