Job summary

Do you have a passion for women's health and supporting women, their babies and families throughout pregnancy, labour and the postnatal period?

Our maternity services are evolving with our plans to move to Bournemouth in 2025, we are looking to grow our team with maternity support workers.

We are looking for candidates who are prepared to work a variety of shifts including nights, weekends and bank holidays, no two days are the same in maternity and we provide a 24 hour, 365 day a year service.

Base Location: St Mary's Maternity Hospital

Interview Date: TBC

Main duties of the job

Main duties including providing kind and compassionate care including clinical observations, infant feeding, mental health and wellbeing support, housekeeping duties.

For community duties you would need access to your own transport and will be support midwives care for women and babies in their own homes and/or in designated clinics of which all training will be given.

In the hospital setting you will be a team player, working independently within scope of job and supported by a wonderful maternity team.

There is a planned move for this service during Spring 2025, when thisrole and base of work will relocate to Royal Bournemouth site. Upon relocation of the role/service, excess mileage allowance / reimbursement will not apply, and any travel between the postholder's home and work base will be classified as a commute. Any other changes unrelated to this, will be handled in line with Trust/National terms and conditions.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Good standard of numeracy and literacy
  • Completed care certificate or willingness to undertake and complete within 12 weeks of joining the department
  • Completion of a competency-based workbook or equivalent relevant experience to vocational level 3.

Desirable

  • Short courses to undertake patient and clinical care duties

Experience

Essential

  • Ability to adapt and learn in a health care environment
  • Previous experience of working within maternity or a similar setting within the NHS
  • Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of working with the public

  • IT literate
