Job summary

We are looking for a Medical Receptionist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing excellent customer service, scheduling appointments, managing patient records, and performing administrative tasks. This position requires a professional attitude, excellent communication skills, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in a medical office setting and be comfortable working with patients of all ages.

Main duties of the job

Responsibilities:

  • Greet and register patients in a professional manner.
  • Schedule appointments and maintain patient records.
  • Answer incoming calls and respond to patient inquiries.
  • Verify insurance coverage and eligibility.
  • Maintain a clean and organized reception area.
  • Collect co-payments and other payments from patients.
  • Provide information about the clinic services, policies, and procedures.

The Speedwell Practice is a GP Practice providing primary care services to a patient population of 12,000 patients from a single site, in a purpose built and newly refurbished Health Centre.

The Speedwell Practice is a friendly, well organised, thriving, training Practice. The GP partners are dedicated to providing the highest standard of care to their patients and are supported by an excellent team of salaried GPs, nurses, HCA, receptionists and administration assistants.

The Practice is an active member of Barnet PCN 2 and is rated as Good by the Care Quality Commission. One of our GPs is a training programme director for the Barnet VTS GP training scheme.

Job responsibilities

Main duties of the job

Preparation and maintenance of EMIS templates and protocols

Building EMIS searches for various uses e.g., QOF, admissions avoidance etc

Advice to GPs and nurses regarding coding issues, use of searches for QOF etc

Mentoring and training GPs and other staff regarding coding, searches and QOF

Organizing IT projects

Admission avoidance system maintenance (but not the implementation of the admission avoidance scheme)

Monitoring QOF and adjusting the patients records as required for optimisation of QOF scores.

Liaising with GPs for QOF optimisation and oversight and advice to relevant staff with the aim of optimising QOF achievement

Preparation of insurance and other medical reports

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths

Experience

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a GP practice
