Job summary

An opportunity has arisen at The Menston and Guiseley Practice to recruit an enthusiastic person to provide additional support to our medical secretarial team. We are looking for a part time secretary to cover 25-30 hours per week. This successful person will deliver an efficient service to patients, by providing a full and confidential secretarial service to our clinicians. This includes audio typing to a high quality, utilising specific knowledge of medical terminology, hospital procedures, secondary care providers and outside agencies.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide an efficient audio, copy typing and word processing service for GPs and health professionals as required. This includes the typing of letters, reports, patient referrals and minutes in an accurate and quality manner.
  • To assist with all clerical and administrative duties.
  • To attend Practice meetings and take minutes when required.
  • To import and file electronic correspondence received by e-mail into patient medical records.
  • To receive incoming and initiate outgoing telephone calls in order to facilitate timely and appropriate communications with others, taking messages and dealing with appropriate queries with both patients and other health professionals/organisations.
  • To maintain the computer clinical system in an accurate and secure manner.
  • To receive and dispatch mail including sending of post or electronically via Docmail.
  • Prioritising workload and working from a GP task list.
  • Preparing blood forms as requested by clinicians.
  • Assist the completion of medical/insurance records.
  • File patient records and correspondence in patient medical records.
  • Reporting and maintaining current recall systems.
  • Assist with QOF targets.
  • Processing death certificates.
  • Preparing Practice booklets.
  • To provide cover for members of the secretarial team during periods of sickness and annual leave.

The Menston and Guiseley Practice is a two site Practice based in Guiseley and Menston.

We have around 11,000 patients on our list.

We have a great team of clinicians and an established admin and reception team.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Audio typing / Copy typing experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft software.
  • Experience of working in a GP Practice.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of SystmOne.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
