Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within the department of Trauma and Orthopaedics. The successful candidate will work as part of a team of more experienced medical secretaries under the supervision of the operational manager. The range of duties will expand over time as competence and confidence increase.

You must possess the ability to work well under pressure and have good interpersonal / team working skills.

Main duties of the job

To ensure the Provision of a Comprehensive effective Secretarial Service to the Consultants, working within Trauma and Orthopaedics.

Organise, plan and prioritise tasks and workload on the basis of the above. Assist with the implementation of new administrative and secretarial procedures.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Essential

  • Educated to GCSE level or Higher

Desirable

  • Audio Typing Level II

Experience

Essential

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of a wide range of secretarial procedures
  • Wide understanding of medical terminology
  • Experience of communicating with all levels of NHS staff
  • Good understanding of the need for accurate data capture and reporting

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the Patient Management System (PMS), UHB Intranet, Email, Results Reporting
  • Experience of working within the NHS

Skills

Essential

  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Able to function efficiently under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Good telephone manner

Desirable

  • Experience of audio and transcribing clinical information
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
