Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and well organised individual to join our Secretarial Team in the Musculoskeletal Service at the Northern General Hospital working for the Sheffield Hand Centre Consultants and the Podiatric Surgery Department.
The post holder will ensure that designated clinical service is supported by an efficient and effective secretarial and clerical system, including audio typing.
The post will be based in the Hand Surgery Services - Northern General Hospital
Working Hours/Pattern: 18.75 hours per week
Main duties of the job
To provide exceptional secretarial and clerical support to the Secretarial Team in MSK, in order to deliver a comprehensive and efficient service within a department that covers Diagnostics, Trauma, Outpatient and Elective Surgery.
To support the medical secretarial and administration personnel in providing a high standard of secretarial, administration and clerical support to the medical staff, their team, patients and other users of the service. This shall predominately involve the co-ordination and typing of clinical correspondence within set time limits and managing and scheduling inpatient waiting lists and staff queries.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of 6 months due to the post being recruited as part of a limited term project within the Trust. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts taking into consideration the requirement for the post to be maintained as a part of the project's implementation and the timescales associated with this.

Qualifications
Essential
- GCSE English Language and Mathematics Grade C/4 or above or equivalent qualifications or experience
- Typewriting/secretarial qualification or equivalent qualification/experience
Desirable
- NVQ3, OCR/RSA3, ECDL or equivalent experience or qualifications
Experience
Essential
- Significant experience of working in an NHS setting.
- Experience of working with NHS Data Systems
- Experience of secretarial, administrative and clerical tasks.
- Experience of working in a busy office environment with an understanding of administrative and clerical procedures
- Demonstrable track record achieving deadlines and targets
- Audio typing experience
- Experience using Microsoft Office and similar I.T. packages
- Supporting in management and scheduling of surgical waiting list
- Patient pathway / 18 week knowledge
- Responsible for ordering and maintaining office supplies/stationery
Desirable
- Working knowledge of the Lorenzo patient administration system (or similar)
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Medical audio typing experience
- Previous waiting list experience
- Previous experience of placing orders via Integra finance system or similar system.
