The Acute Medical Department at Mid Yorkshire NHS Teaching Trust has one of the busiest SDECs in the country. You will work with a dynamic team of acute medical consultants who will be keen to share their expertise and are able to help with FAMUS accreditation. There are lots of innovative pathways and opportunities for quality improvement work to enhance the applicants CV and help them get on to the national training pathway.
The Medical Division at Mid Yorkshire NHS Teaching Trust provides Acute care across the range of medical specialities in a large modern purpose-built hospital in Wakefield, which includes a large Acute Assessment Unit, Acute Elderly Assessment Unit, Coronary Care and Acute (Respiratory) Care Unit. We also provide care for Acute Elderly Admissions and step-down care for patients in a less acute phase of their admission at Dewsbury & District Hospital.
Successful applicants will support the Acute Medicine team in the management of their in-patient workload, along with supporting the trusts Same Day Emergency Care unit (SDEC). You will also participate in the Trust-wide out-of-hours cover across both hospital sites.

- Providing a 'bridge' between senior clinical leaders, managers and the wider trainee workforce to improve communication, engagement and morale.
- Service improvement, for example redesigning pathways, implementing new technology and establishing new services to improve flow and outcomes for patients.
- Improving the quality of clinical and non-clinical education and training activities and supporting/mentoring other trainees to engage in quality improvement.
- Working across teams and boundaries to engage stakeholders in quality improvement and influence change.
- Involvement in and exposure to senior management and organisational decision making.
- Involvement in relevant administration duties
- Teaching and supervision of junior medical staff and other clinicians as appropriate
- Active involvement in audit and clinical governance including service improvement activities

Job responsibilities
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Fellow in Acute Medicine at Mid Yorkshire Teaching Trust (MYTT) on a fixed term basis for 12 months. This post will participate in the cross site senior trainee General Medicine Registrar On-Call rota. Applicants will have the same educational opportunities as other trainees and have protected SDT timetabled. These posts are not recognised UK training posts. However, the post-holders will have a named supervisor, and be supported in undertaking scheduled educational opportunities within the Trust and specialties. The Service Role From a clinical perspective these posts will participate in the cross site senior trainee rota. The senior trainee rota is compliant with the 2016 junior doctor contract averaging 48 hours per week. Duties will be based primarily on our Pinderfields Hospital site although all our medical staff are involved in delivering care to patients on all our sites. The post holder will be expected to take part in the assessment and management of acute patients admitted to the Acute Assessment Unit. This will include taking part in the daily assessment of patients, initiating management plans for these patients and performing procedures (under supervision if needed). Other duties included within the role will be:

The MYDoc Training Programme Educational Input & Recognition These posts are designed to help you get the experience needed for the national training program application. There are opportunities to develop your specialist knowledge and skills, lead a quality improvement project and partake in departmental teaching. Many of our previous trainees have successfully got onto a national training program with the help we have provided. Doctors appointed to a MYDoc post will receive relevant educational input. Each doctor will be allocated an Educational Supervisor and will be required to develop a Personalised Work Schedule.
The weekly timetable should include a balance of these activities appropriate to your grade, role and training requirements. You are required to maintain a dialogue with your Clinical and Educational Supervisor to ensure the balance of these activities meets your developmental needs. Whilst not a recognised training post Doctors successfully completing their training programme will be awarded a Certificate of Achievement from the Trust. Doctors will use established work-place based assessment (WPBA) tools to chart progress and keep relevant evidence in an electronic portfolio system. There will be an annual review of progress based on evidence within the portfolios including the WPBA, 360 assessments, personal reflections and CPD, covering both clinical, personal and professional development, and a Certificate of Achievement (appropriate to that year/level of training) will be issued.
Terms & Conditions and Tenure
Employment will be as a MYDoc Clinical Fellow on Trust Terms and Conditions of Service. The initial tenure of post will be 12 months with the option to extend for a further 2 years by mutual agreement and on satisfactory performance. Appointment as a MYDoc Clinical Fellow is intended to be for a maximum three-year period as part of an individual development programme for the Doctor.
