Stockport NHS Foundation Trust is no ordinary Trust. It holds a unique position in the Stockport community as the provider of healthcare to its population, and it is one of its largest employers.

It is a leading provider of hospital and community health services in Greater Manchester. Our services include acute hospital care, specialist treatments, and extensive community-based health services. With an annual budget of around £400m and 6,500 staff, the Trust supports around half a million patients a year across Stockport, as well as patients from neighbouring Cheshire East and the High Peak area of Derbyshire.

This is an exciting time to join the Board at Stockport NHS FT. We are working closely with Tameside & Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust and have a long history of partnership working as geographical neighbours. We are seeking to strengthen that collaborative approach driven by a shared commitment to enhancing patient care, improving health outcomes, and ensuring the sustainability of healthcare services in our communities. We have a number of shared executive director roles, along with a shared Chief Executive Officer and a newly appointed Joint Chair.

Main duties of the job

You will bring to life our values as you promote the highest standards of integrity and corporate governance, ensuring that quality, finance and operational demands are held in balance. We are specifically seeking a Non-Executive Director with is/has been a clinician specifically Nursing/Midwifery/Allied Health Professional or Healthcare Scientist and who has experience of transformation, including bringing organisations and cultures together.

  • Ability to commit average of 4-5 days per month to Trust business; and flexibility to commit more if required for defined periods

Background and Experience

Essential

  • Have experience of operating at a senior level or board level in a public or private sector organisation

Knowledge

Essential

  • Have experience of working as part of a diverse Board or equivalent to reach consensus

Abilities

Essential

  • Capable of chairing a committee, have an understanding of the needs of our local patient community, the roles and responsibilities of the Council of Governors, statutory and regulatory requirements, risk management and board assurance processes
