Job summary
To provide a comprehensive nurse led service along with the current Nurse Practitioners to support service delivery with CDC and assist with transition to other services
To provide post-diagnostic care, support and advice to children and young people diagnosed with an Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or a developmental disorder and their families.
To act as a key contact for these children, working within a multidisciplinary team.
To provide information, education, training and advice for patients, families and other health professionals.
To support the Consultant Paediatricians in the health care of the children attending the Child Development Centre for assessment and advice.
To be a core member of the CDC multi-disciplinary team and provide support and ongoing health care for children undergoing assessment.
The job holder will have an understanding of the needs of children and their families diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder or other developmental disorders and be able to provide support in terms of behaviour, sleep, toileting and eating disorders.
Function as an autonomous practitioner and independent non-medical prescriber, running nurse led clinics, holding an active caseload and accepting referrals from other health professionals within the CDC service To provide post diagnostic support and advice to children diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder.
This post will include support to EHCP applications.
Main duties of the job
Post holder is responsible for delivering safe care to children and young people being accountable for their own practice in line with the NMC code of conduct.
Post holder is responsible for safeguarding vulnerable children and young people and acts as an advocate for children, young people and families in their care.
Deliver expert, evidence-based care to children with ASD and additional needs in line with NICE guidance.
Provide nurse led new clinic appointments for children accessing the CDC service.
Provide nurse-led follow-up clinics for children diagnosed with ASD and additional needs, liaising with other professionals where necessary.
Deal with and communicates complex, sensitive information.
Assist in the development of care plans for children diagnosed with ASD or additional needs in partnership with children and families, liaising with other professionals.
Liaison with and refer to universal and/or specialist services as necessary.
Work together with the multidisciplinary child development centre team and other agencies (such as education, social services and voluntary services) to promote a seamless service for children and families.
Provide education and advice for patients and their families explaining the condition, treatment strategies and the importance of behaviour management strategies.
Signpost parents/carers and professionals to other services and sources of information as required

Qualifications
Essential
- Registered general nurse RGN qualification equivalent with NMC registration and/ or Specialist Community Public Health Nurse qualification.
- Due to the nature of the role it is essential that applicants are able to travel independently across the county and have access to a suitable vehicle for business purposes. If necessary, adjustments can be considered in accordance with the Equality Act 2010
- An interest in and a willingness to undertake training in the area of Autism Spectrum Disorders and other developmental conditions
Desirable
- Non-medical nurse prescriber qualification
Experience
Essential
- Child Protection and safeguarding experience.
Knowledge
Essential
- Extensive knowledge of Child Development for children under 5.
- Working in a multi-disciplinary team.
- The management of common childhood ailments and health problems
- Knowledge of a variety of special needs and medical conditions
Desirable
- Knowledge of how to work to and follow policies and procedures
- Knowledge of SEND policies and procedures including EHCP report writing.
