Job summary
It is an exciting time to join Salisbury Emergency Department as a Band 7; we are in a period of transition with a new senior leadership team in post, and the band 7 paediatric lead position lends a unique opportunity to shape the changes in paediatric emergency care and pathways to feel the tangible differences you can make. Our paediatric service is co-located with our adult services and there will be a cross over of roles.
We currently have support from national teams NHSE and ECIST in developing new pathways in patient flow and a workforce model and strategy.
There are also opportunities to expand on leadership skills as you will be responsible for a junior team and OD&P elements of managing junior staff. A band 7 development program is currently being designed, you will have opportunity and support to train and work alongside the coach house in change management, to broaden your experience.
Salisbury Foundation Trust serves a mostly rural population; we are also a designated Trauma Unit with a track record in handling major incidents successfully which offers a varied and challenging patient workload, and the number of attendances is growing. We currently see approximately 50,000 patients per year.
Main duties of the job
You will be able to demonstrate expert knowledge in paediatric emergency nursing and be able to translate this into effective nursing practice. You will need to be a team player, have proven leadership abilities, be energetic, proactive and committed to your own professional development and that of others.
You will be working in partnership with the ED Matron to manage and provide leadership to the nursing team. Working collaboratively with the Lead Clinician, Lead Paediatric Clinician and ED Service Manager, as well as the wider ED Senior team, to continuously improve and develop the service.
