Job summary

A key aspect of this role is to combine protected leadership sessions alongside clinical GP sessions. Being clinically active maintains credibility and brings support to the practice as well as providing opportunities to test and refine processes operationally.

A clinical lead position is available at Parliament Street Medical Centre, one of NCGPA's GP sites from April 2025.

The practice clinical lead is a pivotal role in the practice team, providing leadership support and exemplifying the professional approach required to deliver high quality services to patients and staff alike. We are looking for a GP colleague to continue developing the supportive culture within the practice alongside the practice management team that reflects NCGPA's vision for a quality driven, supportive workforce model providing the best care possible for its patients.

The clinical lead role is part of NCGPA's service clinical leadership network, supported by the medical directorate with the opportunity to meet regularly with all NCGPA's clinical leaders to provide support and development within its innovative salaried model.

Main duties of the job

  • Patient safety and quality of care is the priority. The lead's role is to ensure processes and services work to this standard.
  • Chairing regular Clinical Meetings and ensuring they are recorded and shared with the team:
  • Items to discuss are likely to be learning events, safety updates, service developments etc.
  • Attending weekly Management meetings
  • With PM, Nurse Lead, Reception Lead and other roles as required e.g., Systems manager,
  • Linking up to the senior medical team within NCGPA - (medical director and fellow leads) supporting clinical governance at service level feeding into the organisational CG structure.
  • Supporting practice staff on ad hoc basis with clinical queries/ issues
  • QOF and DES planning/ review
  • Linking with the Data management team/ workflow team to ensure implementation of systems to optimise quality care within the practice.
  • Individual GP/ clinical staff support - including annual appraisal.
  • Organising or providing supervision for clinical staff (this may be shared with/ delegated to other appropriate practice colleagues within the practice if agreed and time resourced)
  • Personal professional development activities
  • Safeguarding lead role if not performed by other team members.

Education

Essential

  • GMC Registered, not subject to suspension Qualified General Practitioner Currently on a CCG performers list Clear enhanced DBS check UK work permit (if required)

Desirable

  • Evidence of CPD Bonus: DFSRFH & competence in coil and implant insertion Joint injections Work as a GPWSI Minor surgery skills

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working in UK General Practice

Desirable

  • Experience or interest in becoming an educational or clinical supervisor of GP registrars Teaching medical students
  • Experience of/interest in mental health Delivery of clinical audit QOF management
