Job summary

Pathology Stores and Logistics, based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, is looking for 2 new drivers / stores assistants to join our team for a fixed 12 month period.

The roles will operate on a fortnightly rotation pattern; Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 8:30 - 4:30 and the week after Thursday, Friday and Saturday 8:30 - 4:30. There may be opportunity for overtime shifts

Some flexibility on the rota may be possible (please call if you would like to discuss)

Clean driving license and good communication skills essential.

Main duties of the job

The role involves driving a Pathology VW caddy van on one of our 10 routes across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, collecting patient pathology samples from GP surgeries. Plus, working in our Pathology Stores department receiving deliveries, picking and packing orders

The post holder will need to and maintain patient confidentiality at all times and be able to manage their own time when driving. Lifting and handling of laboratory materials will be required.

Full training will be provided for all aspects of the role.

Job responsibilities

  • Ensuring van checks are performed before driving.
  • Providing a morning and afternoon sample collection run to various pre-agreed GP surgeries / hospitals.
  • Deliver pathology consumables to GP surgeries.
  • Safely transporting patients samples to the Leicester Royal Infirmary Pathology laboratories, following agreed processes.
  • Receiving and booking in deliveries to the Pathology Stores.
  • Use of an electronic stock system to book stock in and out of Pathology Stores.
  • Package stock for distribution to GP surgeries.
  • Deliver orders within the Leicester Royal Pathology departments.
  • Decanting liquid nitrogen ( training given).
