Peer Tutor and Learning Support Adviser - full time - 35 hours per week

Recovery College provides educational courses and workshops, with a focus on personal recovery to anyone in Norfolk and Suffolk over the age of 16 who are experiencing mental health challenges. The courses and workshops are designed to support people to learn skills and strategies to empower them on their recovery journey. All our courses are co-produced and co-delivered by people with lived and learnt experience of mental health difficulties. We are excited to be recruiting for a Peer Tutor and Learning Support Adviser to join our team of seven existing peers. You will be an integral and highly valued member of our team.
We are especially looking for people with lived experience of significant substance use difficulties and who have been through substance use treatment/or are in recovery (with drugs and/or alcohol) for this exciting new role. All our peer tutors will have experience of mental health difficulties. Applicants with a history of substance use (in recovery) and mental health difficulties are strongly encouraged to apply.

Main duties of the job
- To co-facilitate delivery of courses and workshops within the recovery college by using personal lived experiences.
- To co-produce new courses and workshops collaboratively with other peers and subject expertise.
- To participate in and contribute to the co-review of courses including lesson plans, schemes of work and course resources, to support the quality and relevance of the teaching and learning in line with college principles.
- To support the process of quality assurance for new workshops/courses and be part of the quality panel.
- To supporting students to complete Individual Learning Plans (ILPs), either individually or in small groups.
- To provide information, advice and guidance about the student pathway, journey through college, plans for the next steps and graduation.
- Assist the college with local enrolment weeks, supporting students to complete registrations forms, ILPs and evaluations.
- To attend promotional events and open days as required.
- Participate in Peer Support Worker training as required.
- To provide individual student support, if necessary, as identified by the individual student.
- Supporting the on-going development and recruitment of recovery college ambassadors (volunteers).
- To support and contribute as required to any service development, reviews, reports, evaluation as directed by the college manager in line with broader service development.

Job responsibilities
As a Peer Tutor and Learning Support Adviser, you will act as a role model by sharing your lived experience of recovery to inspire hope, motivate and support others in their recovery journey. You will assist service users, staff, and supporters to gain an understanding of personal recovery through co-producing and co-facilitating workshops and courses within the Norfolk and Suffolk Recovery College. You will also have the opportunity to support students accessing the college to plan individual learning and progression through the college. This will include development of individual learning plans and termly enrolment sessions along with reviewing progress for students each term.
Peer tutors will show empathy, share experiences, inspire hope, and promote recovery, with the aim of assisting/supporting service users, staff and supporters to gain an understanding of personal recovery through co-producing and co-facilitating workshops and courses within the Norfolk and Suffolk Recovery College.
Peer tutors will support students accessing the college to plan individual learning and progression through the college. This will include development of individual learning plans and termly enrolment sessions along with reviewing progress for students each term.
Peer tutors will uphold the recovery focused culture and philosophy of the college in all interactions and tasks with students, the college team, wider colleagues internal to the trust and external partners, family, friend, members of the public and visitors to the college.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
- Literacy and numeracy level 2 or equivalent.
- In house (NSFT) peer tutor training programme (tutor passport) or equivalent or willing to work towards it.
Desirable
- Award in adult education and training level 3 or equivalent.
Experience
Essential
- Personal Lived Experience of substance misuse difficulties/treatment.
- Experience of working in a collaborative and co-produced way.
- Experience of tutoring or co-facilitating.
Skills
Essential
- Understanding/knowledge 'embodiment' of the Recovery model
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
