Job summary
We are pleased to announce an exciting development opportunity within our Offender Healthcare Directorate at HMP Swaleside.
The successful candidate will receive full funding to participate in the Buttercups Course - Pharmacy Technician Training Programme (Non-Apprenticeship Pathway), enabling progression from a Band 3 Pharmacy Assistant to a Band 5 Medicine Management Technician. We are also able to accept candidates who are already doing this course and transfer this over.
The course must be completed within two years of starting. During this period, the successful candidate will be expected to work as part of the team under the Band 3 Pharmacy Assistant JD, undertaking clinical and patient-facing responsibilities while they study.
Once the course has successfully completed the candidate will follow the roles and responsibilities on the Band 5 Medicine Management Technician JD.
Main duties of the job
Issue repeat prescriptions (supervised and in possession prescriptions) within a timely manner ensuring compliance with the policy.
Deal with prescription management queries from a range of healthcare professionals including; GP's, nurses, pharmacists, primary staff as well as reception/administration staff at HMP Elmley
Check risk assessments are completed routinely according to in possession policy Kent and raise queries appropriately with the primary care team if risk assessments are due
Review in possession status of each patient upon each prescription request and issue repeat prescriptions according to risk assessment
Respond appropriately to changes in possession status of prescriptions
Working closely with the prescribing GP Pharmacist, act upon any relevant prescribing changes
Any other prescription or medicines management related duties as reasonably requested

All applicants must be willing to undertake National Security Vetting in order to work in a Prison Setting. This will be completed as part of the pre-employment checks through Oxleas and the prison vetting team.

Address History:
5 years address history will be needed.
Applicants that are not UK Passport holders who provide less than 5 years UK address history will need to provide a Police Certificate which must be in English from where they resided previously.
Applicants who are UK Passport holders who have lived abroad for a period of more than six months during the last three years will need to provide a certificate of good conduct or an overseas police check in English from the countries resided in or visited.

To deal with telephone inquiries from primary care and pharmacy staff at HMP Swaleside, dealing with questions about prescriptions and management of prescriptions and referring issues on to other staff if required according to local SOPs.
To communicate with other pharmacy staff within the pharmacy department to resolve issues where items requested for dispensing are out of stock and will be delayed.
