Job summary

Whitstable Medical Practice is looking for a skilled and professional Phlebotomist to join our friendly team. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a patient-focused environment, assisting in the collection and processing of blood samples while ensuring the highest standards of care and accuracy.

This opportunity is for 12.5 hours per week with the work pattern to be confirmed.

We are looking for a compassionate, caring individual who is confident in performing venepuncture and can support both clinical staff and patients effectively.

About us

Whitstable Medical Practice is a forward thinking single practice Primary Care Network (PCN) GP Practice based across 3 sites in Whitstable. There are 24 equity partners looking after over 44'000 patients. We pride ourselves on our innovative approach to Primary Care. We are a training practice and run various in house contracts including Cataract surgery, Ultrasound, Dermatology, Physio Therapies and Audiology together with further community contracts, a Day Surgery Suite and Urgent Treatment Centre with Digital X-Ray.

Job responsibilities

  • Perform venepuncture on patients of all ages, ensuring safe and efficient blood collection.
  • Ensure all blood samples are labelled, processed and stored correctly.
  • Maintain infection control and hygiene protocols to prevent contamination.
  • Provide reassurance and support to patients, including those who may be nervous or needle-phobic.
  • Accurately record and update patient information on EMIS Web.
  • Work collaboratively with GPs, nurses and administrative staff to support patient care.
  • Assist in stock control and ensure phlebotomy supplies are well-maintained.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work efficiently and confidently in a fast paced environment. Strong attention to detail. Good team player. Ability to manage own workload while ensuring high levels of patient care.

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a GP practice. Experience in EMIS Web and Docman.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Qualified in Phlebotomy. GCSE grade A to C/9 to 4 in Maths and English.

Desirable

  • Minimum 6 months experience in a phlebotomy role within a GP practice.
