Job summary

The post holder will work as part of a highly skilled and specialized team providing a comprehensive plaster service to children, young people and their families. This will include treating patients with fractures and orthopedic conditions as part of the multi-disciplinary team. The post holder will also be expected to work in a variety of settings, which may include services on all sites of MFT Outpatients, Theatres, the wards and Paediatric Emergency department, they will work closely with the multi-disciplinary team and contribute to the clinical governance process.

Main duties of the job

  • o Application and removal of all routine and complex casts.
  • o Application and construction of casts/splints as well as removal.
  • o Provide individualised - specialised care as required from internal and external referrals.
  • o Liaise with other health care professionals to facilitate the best treatment for patients and carers.
  • o Be able to explain likely outcome of procedures to children, young people and their families.
  • o Assess, plan and implement treatments for a wide range of orthopaedic problems without direct supervision.
  • o Provide patients with appropriate exercises and advice on post rehabilitation treatment.
  • o Willingness to expand role and skills to meet the needs of children, young people and their families attending the plaster room.
  • o Attend theatre, X-ray and wards as necessary.
  • o Aware of professional responsibilities in the management and treatment of patients.
  • o Adhere to Trust policies and procedures.
  • o To assist members of the multi-disciplinary team within Orthopaedics as and when requires.

  • BOA/RCN (SON) AOT Diploma in casting techniques/British Casting Certificate.
