Job summary

Join us at NHS Blood & Transplant as a Portfolio Coordinator and embark on a journey where your expertise will shape the future and reputation of an organization with a mission to save and improve lives. Within the Digital, Data and Technology Directorate at NHSBT we have some ambitious plans to deliver change over the next five years. Working within the Portfolio and Performance Team you will be at the forefront of supporting these change programmes. This varied hybrid role will be a mixture of home working and NHSBT centre base working, supporting work across in the various capabilities across the function and department. You will help with project work, demand and capacity management undertaking a variety of duties to help ensure the success of these plans. This is a unique opportunity to expand your understanding of Portfolio, Programme and Project methodology and delivery. You will therefore have a good grasp of project management through the complete lifecycle, supported by an excellent grasp of IT packages (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and the ability to use these to produce professional reports. Good verbal and written communication skills are more important. Calm when under pressure, you will be a team-player with knockout organisational and prioritising capabilities. You will also be educated to HNC/HND level or equivalent, and you will be keen to learn.

Main duties of the job

Your role is to support the Head of DDTS Portfolio Office to make sure that the great work being undertaken to make changes in NHSBT and specifically DDTS is delivered to the best possible standards. There is a wide range of interesting and challenging projects and programmes and you will learn how they impact on our customers and what good looks like. You will be required to support the key meetings, making sure they are well prepared and everyone is clear what needs to happen. You will be providing Programme Management Office services supporting key management information from Project Boards through to departmental seniot governance boards. This is a key role where you would be a critical friend across DDTS Portfolio, Programmes and Projects. You will be required to travel and spend time away from base, which will involve working irregular hours and overnight stays when required, with prior notice.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to HNC/HND or equivalent level of education.
  • Willingness to gain further formal training or experience in project/programme methodology and delivery.
  • Demonstrates commitment to own continued professional development (CPD).

Experience

Essential

  • Understanding project management through the complete life cycle.
  • Experience of working with information technology using Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), or equivalent Systems.
  • Experience of using IT systems to produce reports and correspondence which are timely, professional and accurate.
