The post is part time 12-18 hours working 2-3 days per week.

Main duties of the job

As a practice nurse at our GP surgery, you will be responsible for delivering essential healthcare services to our patients. Your main duties will include:

  • Assisting with patient assessments and providing clinical care under the guidance of our medical team.
  • Conducting immunizations, wound care, and other clinical procedures.
  • Supporting chronic disease management and health promotion initiatives.
  • Maintaining accurate medical records and documentation.
  • Collaborating with other healthcare professionals to optimize patient care and outcomes.

About us

We are a friendly and welcoming GP Practice in the heart of Killingworth, North Tyneside. The practice has a population of little over 5100 registered patients. We have 5 GPs supported by an excellent multi-disciplinary team of a Nurse, a HCA, one Physician's associate, a clinical pharmacist, and a pharmacy assistant. The practice teaches medical students from Newcastle and Sunderland University.

Job responsibilities

The practice nurse will work as part of the primary healthcare team providing General Medical Services to the patients of practice.

Duties

Deliver exceptional patient care by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care plans.

Conduct health assessments and screenings, including taking vital signs and performing routine tests.

Administer vaccinations and injections as per protocols.

Assist in minor surgical procedures and provide pre-and post-operative care.

Educate patients on health management, disease prevention, and healthy lifestyle choices.

Maintain accurate patient records and documentation in compliance with healthcare regulations.

Maintain Infection control procedures and run audits on infection control as per practice policy.

Participate in QOF activities and help achieve annual targets timely.

Collaborate with doctors and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.

Participate in continuous professional development to enhance nursing skills and knowledge.

Skills

Strong knowledge of patient care practices and procedures.

Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with patients and colleagues.

Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Strong organisational skills with attention to detail in documentation and patient care.

Empathy and compassion towards patients, ensuring their comfort and dignity at all times.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working in GP practice
  • Evidence of working autonomously and as part of a team
  • Competency in basic nursing duties required for the post
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Management skills

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered General Nurse (Currently registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council)
  • Experience of working in a GP practice

Desirable

  • Knowledge of SystmOne is desirable
