Job summary

We have an opportunity to be involved in creating new ways of working to support Primary Care within our friendly, forward-thinking Primary Care Network. Newport & Central PCN is evolving with scope for further development as we expand.

Currently, we have 4 experienced paramedics working across our PCN Locality and would like to expand the team further.

Interviews for this role will take place on Wednesday 5th February 2025 - with shortlisting taking place on the 29th January.

Main duties of the job

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, experienced paramedic with excellent clinical skills to join our expanding PCN team. The successful candidate will work across our PCN practices and help deliver excellent patient care.

We have a full-time vacancy available with flexible working (within core practice hours: 8am6pm Monday - Friday). We offer a competitive salary with NHS Pension.

Our paramedics provide acute minor ailment clinics within practices in the morning and undertake home visits across the PCN locality in the afternoon.

About us

Newport & Central PCN is a network of 4 GP Practices with a combined population of approximately 60,000 patients. These include Linden Hall Surgery and Wellington Road Surgery in Newport and Donnington Medical Practice and Shawbirch Medical Centre in Telford.

Applicants will be employed through the Newport & Central PCN Ltd company and will be eligible for NHS Pension.

Job responsibilities

To work closely with GPs and other primary care professionals as an autonomous and accountable advanced paramedic practitioner. This will include telephone triage, clinical assessment, diagnosis, investigations, initiation of prescription for treatment as necessary, advising on patient self-care, or referral to other services within predetermined guidelines.

You will also work with the PCN GP Practices and other health and social care organisations in various sites and settings within the community to fulfil the requirements of the role. You will be working towards the delivery of the outcomes outlined in the Primary Care Network Contract Enhanced Service Specification.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience in managing a designated caseload using theoretical and practical experience, completing assessments, planning interventions, and evaluating outcomes aligned to care plans.
  • Ability to co-ordinate and prioritise workloads.
  • Able to multi-task as well as be self-disciplined and highly motivated.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft and GP practice and prescribing data monitoring systems.
  • Ability to write comprehensive clinical notes and implement and evaluate care plans.
  • Ability to evidence a sound understanding of the NHS principles and values.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organisational and communication skills.
  • Build effective relationships with a range of stakeholders which are based on openness, honesty trust and confidence.

Desirable

Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to degree/diploma level in Paramedicine or equivalent experience.
  • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCpC)
  • Completed 2 years 'Consolidation of Learning' period as a 'newly qualified Paramedic'.
  • A further 3 years experience as a Band 6 paramedic
  • Experience of working within an MDT and evidence of accessing and triaging patients
  • Excellent communication skills

Desirable

  • Pre-reg MSc in a training programme
  • Non Medical prescribing qualification
  • Assessor/Mentorship Course
  • Evidence of working in a community or primary care setting
  • Experience of teaching and supporting junior staff or students.
