Job summary
Old Road Medical Practice are seeking several medical receptionists to join our team on a full and part-time basis with the flexibility to work on a weekly rota basis. Now classed as care navigators, these individuals require extensive knowledge of signposting to a variety of internal and external services, to ensure the needs of the patients are being met, at all times.
The receptionist/care navigator plays a pivotal role in the experience of patients at our practice, helping them to access the right services and dealing with their queries face-to-face, online and by telephone. Some flexibility is required, as you will sometimes need to work additional or alternative hours to cover for colleagues. A driver with access to a vehicle is preferred but not essential, to help and assist at our branch surgery in St Osyth.
General practice is a challenging environment that requires a calm and caring approach with the ability to work under pressure. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated team player who has primary care and patient experience, who offers excellent communication skills.
Main duties of the job
- Greeting and directing all patients, in a pleasant and approachable manner at all times.
- Arranging appointments and/or signposting patients appropriately, to internal and external services.
- Answering queries and complaints from patients and outside agencies, signposting to the appropriate staff member as appropriate.
- Accepting, issuing and handing out prescriptions, letters, completed forms, specimen bottles, etc.
- Advising patients of practice procedures.
- Registering new patients.
- Accurately maintaining patient database and records, photocopying, filing and scanning.

Old Road Medical Practice has been providing care and support to residents of Clacton and Jaywick for over 40 years. We are one of the largest GP Surgeries in the area, working with almost 11,000 patients.
We are working towards new ways of providing access to our patients, and becoming more accessible in a variety of ways including face to face, via the phone and online.

Experience
Essential
- Ability to work in a polite, pleasant, confidential and discreet manner, respecting patients and colleagues at all times.
- Experience of working with the general public, preferably within general practice, being sensitive and empathic in distressing situations.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Strong IT and administration skills, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Desirable
- Previous medical or healthcare receptionist experience is desirable.
