University Nursing Service (UNS) is based on campus at the University of Kent. The service is run and supported by the University Medical Centre. It is available to all students and staff at the University of Kent. The service is open 31 weeks a year, during the University term time.

You will be part of the UNS team of registered nurses providing care to the staff and students at the University; the service offers support and well-being advice, treatment of minor illnesses, minor injuries, and contraceptive advice.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be caring, a good communicator, an independent nurse working with good clinical skills.

You will be responsible for the overnight care of students in a 2 bed unit, covering a variety of minor illness or minor injury presentations.

You may be required to provide pastoral care and offer support to students as they settle into University life.

UNS is part of the University Medical Centre and is supported by the GP practice. UNS compliments the services provided at UMC and the organisations work closely together. GP support is available and the teams share learning and best practices.

You will be part of a team of independent workers providing 24hour care at the unit based on Kent University Canterbury Campus.

Job responsibilities

To provide nursing assessment, advice and care to students, staff and visitors to the University of Kent Canterbury campus.

To treat minor injuries and minor ailments, referring to other services as required and to undertake the care of in-patients of the unit.

To provide support and advice to students and staff, directing them to other appropriate agencies where necessary.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered General Nurse

Desirable

  • Knowledge of contraception, mental health and sexual health an advantage
