Job summary
The University Medical Group is a standalone practice operating over 2 sites and is the largest in West Berkshire with over 33,000 patients. We are based in Reading near the University sites where we have over 9,000 students as patients. As we are a PCN in our own right, its easy to make changes to ensure we do the best for our patients and being innovative is what we are all about. We have received outstanding on the last 2 CQC audits and are very proud of this achievement with quality patient care being our key focus.
We are looking for a minimum 4 session GP but would consider someone looking for up to 8 sessions. A normal 2 session day would run from 08:00 - 18:30 (8.875 hours).

Main duties of the job
To work as an autonomous practitioner, responsible for the provision of medical services to the practice population, delivering an excellent standard of clinical care whilst complying with the GMS contract. Furthermore, the post-holder will adhere to the GMC standards for good medical practice, contributing to the effective management of the practice, leading by example, maintaining a positive, collaborative working relationship with the multidisciplinary team.
About us
You will join a clinical team consisting of 3 GP Partners, 15 salaried GP, 3 Paramedics, 3 Practice Nurses, 1 Nursing Associate and 3 HCA's plus a broad range of established allied healthcare professionals including a Pharmacy team, First Contact Practitioners , Social Prescribers and Care Coordinators.

Job responsibilities
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide a full range of medical services as defined in the core GMS contract, additional and enhanced services where appropriate.
- Provide other general medical services to meet identified patient need.
- Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems whether self-referred, or referred from other healthcare works within the organisation.
- Assess the healthcare needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
- Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
- Develop care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current practice; disease management protocols, provide counselling and health education.
- Work within current ICB policy for prescribing.
- Be available and accessible to patients at all times as agreed.
- Maximise the effective use of current clinical computer systems. Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to an agreed standard.
- Compile and issue computer generated acute and repeat prescriptions.
- Undertake all duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care. (These duties will include reports/cremation forms).
- To take part in, and lead on, areas including clinical auditing and data collection.
- Support under-graduate student training in the surgery.
- Support GP registrar training in practice.
- Attend team meetings and other clinical meetings as necessary
- Provide short term emergency cover for unplanned absence of colleagues
- Provide emergency on call cover for the practice.
