Senior clinical psychologist

Are you an outstanding clinical psychologist? A unique opening has arisen to join our new Specialist Community Learning Disability Service, to help people with learning disabilities in Sheffield to live their best lives.

In this new, cutting-edge service we are using the most specialist, evidence-based and person-centred model available. As a large and friendly multi-disciplinary team we work closely together, learn from each other and combine our expertise. We assess cases and make sure our patients get the tailored and specific support that will help them the most. Our new model includes routine and enhanced cases and the opportunity to work with system partners including social services, children's services and the trusts wider mental health and neurodevelopmental services.

Main duties of the job

Job summary

Our aim is to provide the highest quality, strengths based, trauma-informed, person-centred care which enhances the lives of adults with learning disabilities.

The main duties of the job will be to provide psychological assessment, formulation and interventions for adults who have mental health difficulties and/or behaviours of concern. You will work with the person, their family, and their carers to develop person-centred care plans designed to improve quality of life. Direct work will include offering adapted talking therapies (e.g., adapted CBT, CAT or CFT) designed to reduce psychological distress and increase coping strategies and quality of life. You will also offer staff or family workshops to help support the 'team around the person' better understand and respond to their needs. Our core workshops include, positive behaviour support, dementia, autism, trauma informed care or mental health. We receive very positive feedback for our work with people and their carers which provides a wonderful opportunity for job satisfaction.

Working in the Sheffields outdoor city, you will be a stone's throw from the Peak District and the citys many green spaces. Our links to the citys universities also offer you the chance to develop health workers of the future and contribute to research.An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Clinical Psychologist to join our Specialist Community Learning Disability Service (SCLDS). You will provide assessment, formulation and talking therapies to adults with learning disabilities. You will work as part of the multi-disciplinary team and receive excellent supervision and support. You will provide consultancy and workshops on topics such as mental health, positive behaviour support, dementia or autism to families and providers.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Post-graduate, doctoral level training in clinical psychology as accredited by the HCPC/BPS
  • Registration with the HCPC as a Clinical Psychologist

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working with a wide variety of service user groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity

Experience

Essential

  • Ability to work with service users presenting with complex psychological difficulties
  • Evidence of being able to work effectively in multi-disciplinary settings and teams
