Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated finance professional to join the Finance department at North Bristol NHS Trust as part of a dedicated team to support the income function within the Trust, which has responsibility for £800m of annual revenue.

We are looking for a dedicated and innovative self-starter to support the timely and accurate production of financial and activity information which requires understanding, interpretation and analysis. You will support the team to investigate and resolve queries from external and internal finance and commissioning staff and pursue corrective action in consultation with the team as well as managing the commissioner income inputs into the ledger.

Reporting into the Head of Contract Income and Costing and working closely with the Assistant Director of Finance, Income and Productivity, you will lead a small team in order to provide the delivery of a high quality, efficient and timely income service within a busy acute teaching hospital. The post holder will provide support and advice on all issues related to contract income, with opportunities to influence across the Clinical Divisions within the Trust and with external commissioners. Developing excellent working relationships with a range of internal and external managers across the organisation. Liaising closely with Finance Business Partners, Deputy Finance Business Partners, Divisional Finance Managers and the wider finance team.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an analytically minded individual with a good track record of delivering results within a large complex environment, good MS Excel skills and sound experience in the use of large datasets.

Main duties of the role:

  • To ensure Trusts income position is reported accurately and within timetable on a monthly basis.
  • Support the Head of Contract Income and Costing in reviewing the monthly clinical income position of the Trust including the identification and implementation of any necessary corrective actions.
  • Oversee the reporting of patient level activity and income for the Trust both internally and externally to commissioners
  • Income analysis to support the wider finance team, divisions and commissioners
  • Assist with both regular forecasting and the annual planning process
  • Support the annual audit
  • Data manipulation and problem solving
  • Project work

The successful applicant will have:

  • CCAB Qualified Accountant
  • Experience of working within NHS Finance or similar sized organisation
  • Experience of leading a team
  • Experience of working with non-finance individuals
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to use a full range of formulae to create spreadsheets and databases capable of recording, manipulating and analysing highly complex data and statistics
  • Experience of working under pressure to very tight deadlines is important, whilst also ensuring attention to detail, accuracy and quality of output is maintained

The post is contractually based at the Southmead Hospital site and at present we have a hybrid working model of remote working and office based when necessary. The requirement of office-based working can vary depending on current pressures and departmental needs(circa 2 days per week).
