In the role ofa Senior Medical Engineering Technicianwe are looking for an individual with current medical engineering experience. An excellent remuneration package including pension will be offered depending on experience.

Main duties of the job

  1. Servicing, repairing, commissioning and calibration of identified Electro-medical equipment, including ventilators, anaesthetic machines, ultrasound scanners, incubators, fetal monitors, neonatal and adult monitoring equipment, infusion pumps and other life support equipment. Also first line support for patient beds, cots and treatment couches.
  2. Must be able to methodically solve problems with complex patient connected equipment, some of which may also be connected to medical information gathering networks where loss of data may have an impact on patient care.
  3. Liaison with external contractors, by organising and co-ordinating contracts and service visits.
  4. Liaison with suppliers and manufacturers when dealing with problems or purchase of new equipment and sourcing spare parts.
  5. Development of test procedures, taking into account manufacturers recommendations, where available and safe working practices.
  6. Provide advice and clinical support when required in the use of medical equipment through out the Trust.
  7. Attend, where necessary, internal and external meetings relating to professional and service issues.
  8. Participation in the department stock control system and ordering of replacement parts.
  9. Complete paper records and enter electronic data for equipment inventory, maintenance schedules and repair procedures. Ability to produce work related word documents and excel spreadsheets when required.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in electrical/electronic engineering or equivalent acceptable engineering/technical based qualification with relevant experience.
  • Demonstrate on-going training (CPD) to ensure that relevant theoretical knowledge & practice has been continually updated

Experience

Essential

  • Substantial experience in maintenance, fault finding and repair of electrical and electronic or mechanical and electromechanical Medical Equipment. Alternatively experience in direct use, setting-up & user maintenance of a range of patient connected medical equipment + experience in use of IT. This will have been gained in a role without direct supervision.
  • Experience in the use of computerised equipment management systems.
  • Experience in the use of electronic Test & Measurement equipment.
  • Demonstrate practical experience in the use of machine and hand tools in light engineering applications

  • Good technical, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to use initiative and prioritise own work in a cost efficient way.
  • Computer skills - ability to use an equipment management database and diagnostic software.
  • Ability to create word and excel documents in an efficient and cost effective way

Practical Requirements of Post

Essential

  • Good manual dexterity especially when fault finding on fine circuit boards.
  • Willing to work alongside medical and nursing staff in clinical areas
  • Flexibility regarding working hours.
  • Willingness to undertake training and personal development.
  • Safety awareness when lifting heavy loads or carrying out repetitive operations.
  • Ability to drive car, if required.
