An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated pharmacy technician to join the Pharmacy Procurement and Finance team at Barts Health NHS Trust. We are looking for a dedicated team player, with excellent communication and organisational skills, someone who strives to provide a high quality and efficient service to our patients and the wider organisation.
The Pharmacy Department at Barts Health is one of the largest in the country and covers a population of 2.5 million. We provide clinical pharmacy and medicines optimisation services from our five hospital sites across the City of London, East and Northeast London.

Main duties of the job
The Senior Pharmacy Procurement & Finance Technician will be responsible for:
Assist the Lead Procurement and Contracts Pharmacy Technician in daily operations
Support the implementation of pharmacy contracts and facilitate the ordering of medications.
Collaborate with the lead to optimise pharmacy stock levels, minimising wastage while ensuring adequate stock availability for patient needs.
Contribute to the training and development initiatives for the Finance and procurement teams.
Supervise, train, and appraise pharmacy staff working within the procurement and Finance team, ensuring they are well-equipped to fulfil their responsibilities effectively
Deputise for the Lead Procurement & Finance Technician
Purchasing
Support the purchasing of medicines, including medical gases and unlicensed medicines
Assisting in medicines shortage management
Participating in Procurement cost improvement programmes
Finance
Ensure the timely processing of invoices and conduct supplier reconciliations.
Working with Finance to find resolutions to invoice queries
Monthly KPI submissions

Job responsibilities
The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team comprising of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, pharmacy assistants, clinical staff and other operational leads.
The successful candidate will be based at the Royal London hospital but may be required to work at any of the Barts Health NHS Trust sites.

Qualifications
Essential
- BTEC Pharmaceutical Sciences /NVQ 3 or equivalent
- Registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council GPhC
- CIPS L4 and above or willingness to work towards
- GDP course or willingness to complete
Desirable
- Practice Supervisor, Train the trainer or equivalent qualification
- ILM Level 3 Leadership and Management qualification or equivalent
Experience
Essential
- Significant experience as a pharmacy technician
- Significant experience working in an acute NHS hospital setting
- Experience in training/supervising staff
- Experience in completing audits and implementing change
- Use of Datix incident reporting system or equivalent
- Procedure development and review
- Training of Pharmacy staff
Desirable
- Experience using pharmacy stock management systems (CMM)
- Evidence of successful design and implementation of new supply processes
- Experience in managing staff
Knowledge
Essential
- Understanding of GPhC Revalidation requirements
- Up-to-date knowledge of legislation relevant to pharmacy practice, e.g. controlled drugs, Health and Safety at Work
- An understanding of how to manage a Pharmacy stock control robotic system (Omnicel or similar)
- Understanding of the importance of adherence to Understanding of the importance of adherence to
