The Womens Clinical Service Unit at Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS Trust is a leading provider of specialist womens health services in West Yorkshire, and places great emphasis upon maintaining a high level of patient care.
Due to the retirement of the current post holder, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, motivated, resourceful individual with established gynaecology and leadership experience to join our gynaecology team on J24/ GATU (Gynaecology Assessment Treatment Unit).
The department is split between a 9 bedded inpatient unit and an outpatient assessment unit. It is a friendly unit, providing physical and emotional support and a high standard of nursing care. We have a fast turnover of patients and pride ourselves on receiving excellent feedback from the friends and family test.

Main duties of the job
As the Senior Sister/ Charge Nurse you will be responsible and accountable for the provision of high-quality care within the unit, providing clinical leadership, direction and support for all staff. You will also work within the gynaecology team to provide care to all women during their in-patient stay.
You will be registered general nurse with at least three years experience in gynaecology and evidence of leadership and management. You will have undertaken post registration education and there will be an expectation you will be committed to continued learning of additional techniques and skills to enhance the provision for women.
You will be expected to manage a multidisciplinary team of gynaecology nurses, support staff and specialist nurses providing leadership and management. Previous experience of staff and budget management would be advantageous.

JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY
The Jobholder will carry 24 hour continuing responsibility for the effective and efficient management of the ward/department. They will provide professional, clinical, managerial leadership and supervision for the nursing team. The jobholder is responsible for developing and maintaining a ward or departments philosophy that has the patient at the centre of compassionate safe and quality care delivery. Through managing the administrative and financial aspects of the ward, the jobholder will ensure cost effective use of resources.

The women's gynaecology unit comprises several services in one dedicated space. Benign gynaecology surgery, acute gynaecology assessment area, acute gynaecology clinics, early pregnancy services and some outpatient procedures such as hysteroscopy and cystoscopy are also co-ordinated from the unit. The job holder will be required to manage a team of gynaecology nurses, support staff and specialist nurses providing leadership and management.
