Job summary
We are recruiting for a Senior Therapy Support Worker who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.
You will be joining an established therapy team with excellent peer support. We are looking for sound communication and organisational skills, an ability to work within a team and to use your initiative. Experience of working with patients who have suffered fractures and/or undergone orthopaedic surgery, and knowledge of Occupational therapy and Physiotherapy would be an advantage.
On taking up the post, you would be guided through core and specific competencies appropriate to the role.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will work with the Orthopaedic team within the acute setting at Lister Hospital.
To undertake assessments and interventions with individual patients within remit of defined caseload
To act as first contact in certain situations, as agreed, following competency training and agreement with qualified therapist.
To carry own caseload of routine patients and prioritise this caseload and organise the day accordingly.
To contribute to the on-going discharge planning process for patients within caseload in conjunction with other members of the multidisciplinary team, to adjust as necessary in line with service needs.
To refer patients after discussing cases with relevant therapists to other services eg: ICT
Understand the need to gain valid patient consent.
To communicate progress/outcome of treatment with the patient, clinical supervisor, relatives, carers, and the multidisciplinary team
Act appropriately within home environment and respect the patient's style of living.
Demonstrate an understanding of problem solving and contribute to the solutions working with colleagues.
Make decisions in liaison with Therapist on the timing of progressing interventions.

Qualifications/Training
Essential
- Good general education
- NVQ Level III, or equivalent knowledge and experience
- Basic mathematical skills
Previous Experience
Essential
- Awareness of needs of older people/ people with acute illness
- Awareness of function/cognitive/risk and mobility components of Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy
- Knowledge of basic assessment components needed for therapy assessment
- Knowledge of basic treatment planning and progression
- Previous clinical and therapy experience of working with in patients/ward
- Previous experience or knowledge of health/social care work
Skills
Essential
- Excellent written and verbal English skills
- Ability to communicate when barriers to understanding exist
- Ability to communicate within a multi-disciplinary team
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight dead-lines
- Ability to work independently and own limitations
