Job summary
The Medical Education Team requires committed and interested staff to enable medical students, doctors in training to make the most of the SIM teaching opportunities.
We have 1 post for a Simulation Teaching Fellow to join the team. This role will involve teaching alongside the current designated consultant faculty, nursing and admin team while taking a lead in some of the more complex planning of the curriculum and delivery of key concepts of simulation.
This post offers the opportunity to gain broad experience within the medical education teaching team. You must be able to take a lead in activities and ensure effective time management and organisation as required.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the role include planning, delivery and evaluation of the Simulation suite for both undergraduates and postgraduates.
Candidates must have a MBBS qualification (or equivalent) and have successfully completed the Foundation Programme. They should be able to work as effectively as part of a team with both autonomous as well as delegated responsibilities. Prior involvement in undergraduate or other structured training/teaching is useful as the role involves being able to take a lead in teaching and learning activities, ensuring effective time management and having great organisational skills.
Successful candidates must have an interest in the specialty for which they are applying and be fully registered with the GMC.

Skills, knowledge and aptitude
Essential
- Knowledge of the undergraduate curriculum from University of Newcastle and University of Sunderland medical schools
- Knowledge of postgraduate curriculums eg IMT
- Evidence of teaching and training skills for junior doctors
- Effective communication skills
- Ability to organise and prioritise complex demands
- Evidence of working in a multi-disciplinary team
Desirable
- Management training
- Ability to use IT to help education
- Postgraduate Examinations (inc first part)
