Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated clinician who is excited by the opportunity of working alongside professional colleagues in a dynamic Community Forensic Team. This is a great opportunity as the Community Forensic Teams have recently aligned as one team.

The post holder will have working knowledge and clinical skills in OT professional practice models and assessments. The post holder will work under the guidance and leadership of the Advanced Occupational Therapist and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

The post holder will deliver assessment and intervention to a working age adult community forensic service. The post holder will support the recovery and community pathways for service users who may have diagnosis of personality disorder, mental illness, learning disability and/or neurodiversity.

The post holder will maintain a focus on a community-to-community pathway whilst maintaining positive relationships with inpatient MDT's. The post is part of a wider forensic therapies (allied health professionals) team.

Main duties of the job

  • Assesses and treats own specialist caseload of clients for professional OT service in a variety of settings
  • Provides specialist OT advice to other disciplines
  • Support discharge pathways through in-reach provision to inpatient services
  • Contributes to multi-disciplinary risk formulation, risk assessment and risk management
  • Supervise junior staff, students and support workers
  • May lead clinical audit and undertake research
  • Provides OT advice to social services, housing departments, clients, carers and other professionals
  • To be responsible for own practice and ensure effective patient/service user care is maintained
  • Possess effective time management skills

Qualifications

Essential

  • Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Registration with the HCPC
  • A broad understanding of relevant policy/legislation and their application to clinical practice and service
  • Specialist knowledge of occupational therapy models of practice, standardised assessments, and their use in practice
  • Practice Educator trained with up to date SLiP training

Desirable

  • Evidence of current CPD/formal qualifications
  • Registration with the specialist RCOT sections
  • A full understanding of relevant policies, their drivers and their application to clinical and service areas

Experience

Essential

  • Completed preceptorship programme
  • Appropriate knowledge/experience of working in the relevant service area
  • Understanding of caseload management clinical responsibilities

Desirable

  • Evidence of promoting/supporting active user/carer involvement/participation

Skills

Essential

  • Able to demonstrate effective inter-personal/communication skills
  • Ability to demonstrate ethical values and attitudes within a culture of equality and diversity
