Job summary
The West London Renal and Transplant Centre (WLRTC) at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (ICHT) opened at Hammersmith Hospital in November 2005 and is one of the largest facilities of its kind in Europe. We have 4 inpatient wards totaling 71 beds and a planned investigation unit offering a ward attender/day case service of 18 beds. The service also has an acute haemodialysis unit, 8 satellite dialysis units, peritoneal dialysis and home haemodialysis teams; nurse led chronic kidney disease team, Live Donor Team, a rapid assessment unit and 2 outpatient clinics looking after over 3000 patients on renal replacement therapy.
As a band 5 nurse in Renal, you will get to work with a varied multi professional team including specialist nurses, doctors and allied health professionals. With our own emergency admission pathway you will be at the forefront of delivering acute medical/surgical care. We will support you to develop advanced assessment skills of highly complex, acutely unwell patients which will provide you with a strong foundation to develop in your nursing career. You will encounter patients receiving general nephrology, pre and post transplantation and dialysis along with those diagnosed with various auto-immune diseases. Many of our patients are admitted via our own emergency admission pathway and you will be required to deliver acute medical and surgical care. You will be supported every step of the way as we help you to develop your knowledge, skills and clinical expertise in advanced assessment and patient management skills. We are fully committed to your continued professional development and there are many educational and training opportunities to help build your career in Renal Nursing. There is a dedicated Renal Education team to help provide you with the education and clinical support you require.
Previous experience in a renal setting is not a requirement. We welcome applications from those working in other specialties and newly qualified nurses.
Main duties of the job
- To provide high quality, effective, individualised care to all patients by assessing care needs and developing, implementing and evaluating them without supervision
- To assist the ward manager in leading the nursing team and deputise in their absence
- Monitor standards of nursing care and take appropriate action to maintain and improve them
- To respond to patients, relatives and carers concerns as they arise and take remedial action as required
