Job summary
To primarily maintain and manage the boiler, steam, HTHW and auxiliary systems of the Trust in line with statutory, mandatory and good practice guides ensuring no loss of service. This will include the management, maintenance and operation of both steam & HTHW boilers, associated pipe-work & equipment, and auxiliary systems.
The post holder shall have sound mechanical and electrical knowledge and sufficient knowledge and experience to work with the minimum of supervision, and the ability to undertake maintenance, fault finding, repairs and installation work on all plant and equipment associated with the raising of steam and MTHW within a boiler house environment. This will include working on specialist systems, fault finding and repair, planned maintenance, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, compressed air and steam systems. Supervising specialist contractors, raising and control of relevant Permit to Works and liaison with Competent Persons as required under the Pressure Systems regulations.

An exciting career opportunity has arisen within the Estates Department at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital for the role of Steam Specialist has become available and would ideally suit a person with extensive knowledge and experience in steam and medium temperature hot water raising plant and associated equipment.
We are looking to recruit a person who is highly motivated, appropriately skilled and very enthusiastic to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will also be proactive and forward thinking with a can-do, problem solving attitude in their approach to getting the job done.
The successful applicant will be required to demonstrate a good working knowledge on mechanical systems, industrial boiler raising plant and associated equipment for raising steam and medium temperature hot water serving the Trust on several sites. Other knowledge and experience in including plumbing, heating, fitting, industrial pump sets & motors, air handling units, and other mechanical engineering equipment associated within a hospital environment would be advantageous.
For the right candidate there would be further additional training to enhance specialist skills that are required within a hospital environment.
You must also have the ability to identify undertake immediate and effective repairs to all boiler associated plant and equipment and mechanical systems with the minimum supervision. Works will be in compliance with all statutory requirements, good practice guidelines and working to specifications and drawings as necessary.
The successful applicant must be able to apply a high degree of attention to detail whilst working on systems and equipment and also be precise in the recording of relevant results.
