An opportunity has arisen for a Band 3 support worker to support the Paediatric Asthma nursing team at Darent Valley Hospital. This is a newly created post to work alongside two Paediatric Asthma Specialist Nurses for 22.5 hours per week.

This post will be predominantly based on the Darent Valley Hospital site. The post holder may be required to support the other specialist nursing teams.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and innovative person to join our team.

Main duties of the job

To assist the Asthma Nurse Specialists, Respiratory consultants and MDT with co ordinating a robust Asthma service. Excellent communication and organizational skills are paramount to ensure patient safety and delivery of care.

Provide administrative support to the team. Including using PAS and other systems to book and outcome clinics. Re organize and re structure clinics due to service change and consultant and nurse capacity.

Give basic advice to patient parents, health professionals and the general public as guided by the specialist nurse and accurately record information in the patients notes or internal system.

Ensure that appointments are made in a timely and appropriate manner involving the booking, amending or cancelling of appointments using the patient Administration System (PAS) liaising with adult and Paediatric medical secretarial teams.

Person Specification

Education and Training

Essential

  • oNVQ level 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent
  • oPrevious knowledge or working within a healthcare setting
  • oCare Certificate (or working towards)

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • oKnowledge of child health, development and protection
  • oUnderstanding safeguarding issues
  • oUnderstanding of working with agencies/multidisciplinary working
  • oExcellent communication skills
  • oAble to work within a team prioritise workload with minimal supervision
  • oMicrosoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
