Job summary
A post is available as a Band 7 Team Lead Occupational Therapist post within The Community Mental Health Team. This position offers part time hours (22.5hrs).
The role is part of an Occupational Therapy Team based within The Community Mental Health Occupational Therapy Team, with the majority of the work being community based. The OT's are imbedded within a multi-disciplinary team.
The successful candidate will lead The Community Mental Health Occupational Therapy Team, continuing to embed the principles of Occupational Therapy by using the philosophy of occupation within a recovery framework. The role will offer the chance for some service development, to work alongside other MDT Team Leads as well as supervision and management of other Occupational Therapy grades.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
- Works without direct supervision to assess, plan, implement and evaluate Occupational Therapy interventions with autonomy in secondary care and community settings to include lone working e.g. patients own home.
- To manage a defined caseload, using evidence based/client centred principles within the occupational model.
- To develop expertise in identified clinical areas.
- To provide leadership through supervision, induction, training and education of other Occupational Therapists (from Band 4 to Band 6), according to organisational policy and accepted professional standards.
- To demonstrate a commitment to the education of Occupational Therapy students ensuring the maintenance of clinical standards through regular supervision of students on practice placement
- To work in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team and with voluntary organisations, local authority and other appropriate health and social care sectors to negotiate care provision across the primary/secondary care interface
- To maintain clinical records in accordance with legal requirements and professional standards.

Qualifications & Clinical Experience
Essential
- Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy. Professional registration as recognised by HPC.
- Autonomous practitioner with self-management skills. Sound clinical reasoning/problem solving skills within clinical area. Planning and prioritisation of workload. Communicate effectively to a wide audience and adapt approach accordingly
- Ability to support and supervise others both clinically and managerially
- Evidence of critical appraisal/analytical thought. Mechanisms of audit and research methodology. Reflective practitioner.
- Organisational skills. E.g. initiates and contributes to multiagency/professional meetings
- Knowledge of services that link across the primary/secondary care interface to provide integrated care in specialism. Knowledge and application of Health and Safety at Work Act. Knowledge of current healthcare policies and application in clinical area
- Professional confidence. Adaptive skills that embrace change and new developments. Self motivated. Ability to cope well under pressure
- Basic I.T. Skills. Presentations skills to include use of audio-visual aids
Desirable
- Evidence of recent study. Fieldwork Educators Course
- Evidence of experience of Mental Health services as a Band 5 or 6
- Research methodology. Presentations skills.

Experience
Essential
- Sufficient post - graduate clinical experience. Managing a caseload Inter-professional and multi-agency team working. Direct involvement with carers and families.
- Experience of representing Occupational Therapy on an MDT basis
