Job summary
Teesside Mind and Darlington Mind are really pleased to be recruiting a Team Manager and a team of Peer Support Workers to new roles within our recovery based services across the Tees Valley.
These roles are part of our Community Transformation work in the Tees Valley and will be part of an exciting new collaborative service in partnership with TEWV NHS Trust who will have peer workers in their Community Mental Health Teams.
Community Transformation is part of the NHS Long Term Plan and represents a shift in the way we deliver care. It considers the whole person, beyond their diagnosis, and what the whole system has to offer, including primary care, local authority, voluntary care sector, alongside families and friends. We are working together to ensure we collectively deliver trauma-informed, person-centred care to meet an individuals wide-ranging needs.
These roles will involve working together as part of a wider team which includes Darlington Mind, Teesside Mind and TEWV NHS Trust. The successful candidate will be supported by the Service Manager responsible for Mental Health Recovery Services.
Main duties of the job
- Support and line manage Peer Support Workers within the team including monthly supervision, staff development, caseload monitoring and performance management
- Support staff to maintain their wellbeing and resilience
- Facilitate reflective practice sessions focussed on the peer support model
- Set the agenda and facilitate regular team meetings
- Lead on service improvements and work alongside the service manager in developing new Peer Support initiatives
- Develop effective relationships with managers and staff within TEWV NHS Trust community teams to ensure joint working across the whole Peer Support team
- Participate in multi-agency meetings and huddles (and support team members to do so) to facilitate people who would benefit from peer support being able to access it
- Deliver a range of training packages to staff and people who access the service, including mandatory training and Teesside Mind accredited Level 2-Setting Up and Delivering Peer Support Groups
- Provide guidance and support on safeguarding and safety management
- Involve people who access services and other stakeholders in co-production where appropriate and ensure the service develops based on new ideas, stakeholder feedback and best practice
- Ensure workplace health and safety systems are followed across the service in collaboration with partner organisations
- Support effective internal and external communications by forming and building relationships within local health and social care networks

One of our proudest achievements in the last 3 years has been collaborating with Primary Care colleagues on the development of Social Prescribing on Teesside. In addition our recent merger with Redcar and Cleveland Mind has enabled us to offer more services to more people across Teesside.

Job responsibilities
You will lead a team of Peer Support Workers to inspire hope and belief in others that personal recovery from mental health problems is achievable.
You will use your own experience of mental health problems and using mental health services, and those of your team, to design and shape this service to be an integral part of the Mental Health Recovery Service and wider mental health system.
You will be responsible for team support and supervision, ensuring operational performance targets are met, staff are trained and supported to undertake their roles, and that the people who use the service have an excellent experience.
You will model best practice in peer support within the team, within Mind and externally. You will support the team to challenge both individual and structural instances of stigma and discrimination related to mental health and other forms of exclusion.
An important part working within Mind to further develop the influence and participation of people with lived experience and contribute to the development of new opportunities.
At the start of the role, you will attend peer support training alongside other new team members from Mind and TEWV. This training is delivered by people with their own lived experience and experience working in peer roles.
Person Specification
Knowledge and Qualifications
Essential
- Hold NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification, or have ability to work with information at this level and equivalent experience of providing peer support
- Hold Level 3 Teaching Qualification e.g. PTLLS or equivalent or willing to work towards this
- Management or leadership training/qualification or equivalent experience
- Knowledge of mental health problems and mental health services
- Knowledge of the Voluntary Sector and how it works with other Statutory and Non-statutory Services
- Safeguarding and safety planning practices
Desirable
- Knowledge of CHIME model of care
Experience
Essential
- Personal experience of mental health problems and using mental health services
- Recent experience of using own lived experience to support others, for example in a paid, volunteer or informal peer support role
- Staff management, supervision and supporting continuous professional development
- Coaching or mentoring staff in a supportive environment
- Training staff
- Work as part of a team
- Relationship building and close partnership working with other teams and organisations
