Job Description
Job summary
The person appointed will be a suitably qualified Technician, with relevant practical experience.
They will be able to carry out their duties with minimal managerial input at all times.
The Technician will be capable of performing highly complex activities on a range of Estates plant and systems, including PPM (Planned Preventative Maintenance), breakdowns and job requests both inside and outside of normal working hours, in order keep the Trust's essential services running 24/7.
They will have a thorough knowledge and understanding of technical data, specifications and issues relating to a wide range of Estates plant, equipment and systems.
The Technician will be capable of undertaking maintenance, improvement and minor capital works on all facilities across the Trust.
They will ensure compliance with all Trust and Statutory standards and procedures at all times.
They will carry out their duties across the MSE sites and should therefore be able to travel under their own ability to all premises owned or run by the Trust.
Main duties of the job
The Technician will be able to effectively advise, instruct and train colleagues, and other groups, in the safe operation of equipment and systems.
To demonstrate a high level of maturity, integrity with well-developed communication and inter-personal skills.
To provide advice and technical support to colleagues on the availability, suitability and maintainability of plant and equipment, in support of patient care.
To communicate with team leaders and senior management in the preparation and delivery of new works.
The postholder will be capable of working unsupervised, or with minimal management involvement. However, the post holder will be able to escalate serious matters to the relevant engineering manager, as and when appropriate.
The postholder will be able evaluate and respond appropriately and effectively to potential emergency situations, ensuring that safety of patients, colleagues and the general public is always the first priority.
To immediately notify management of any deviation from these regulations.
The postholder at all times carry Trust communication devices, mobile phones and two-way radios to facilitate immediate response to emergencies.
To ensure good communications between management, other departments and the Estates teams.

- An approved apprenticeship in an electrical or Mechanical engineering or equivalent experience.
Desirable
- BTEC/HNC in relevant electrical/mechanical discipline
Knowledge

- Recent practical working experience of Electrical/Mechanical systems.

- Knowledge of: Health Technical Memorandums
Experience

- Demonstrate a level of Judgement across a range of Estates issues taking into account legislation H&S and conflicting demands of the Trust

- Experience of working within a building services team.
