Job summary

An exciting opportunity to join Chesterfield Royal Hospital Maternity Services as a Lead Nurse for Transitional Care.

We are currently implementing Transitional care on our postnatal ward. The lead role will facilitate the implementation / management and evaluation of the Transitional Care service, working alongside the Maternity and Neonatal teams.

The unit will care for infants who meet the criteria for Neonatal Transitional Care as described in CNST Safety Action 3. The beds are currently part of the bed base on the maternity ward at Chesterfield Royal Hospital. Our team provides high quality care, working collaboratively to keep mothers and babies together, avoiding separation and admission to the neonatal care unit.

Our maternity inpatient ward offers a calm and welcoming environment for women and their families, whilst Chesterfield Birth Centre provides co-located midwife and consultant led labour ward facilities, including 4 birthing pools

We are a fully accredited Baby Friendly unit.

Our Community Midwifery service centre's around 4 local bases /GP surgeries which provide care for around 2500 women per year.

Main duties of the job

The overriding purpose is to support the provision of the highest quality patient care through personal actions and continuous improvement.

To work as the Lead Nurse, to lead and work alongside the Ward Leader in providing high standards of holistic transitional care, ensuring that it is evidence based and compliant with best practice recommendations for Transitional Care services (TC).

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • Registered with the NMC
  • Recognised teaching qualification or experience.
  • Qualified in Speciality (neonates) or equivalent course.
  • Evidence of having completed relevant further study or trained relevant to the post.

Desirable

  • Recognised management or leadership qualification.
  • 1st level degree.
  • Trained in clinical supervision.
  • Experience / Knowledge of recruitment and retention, appraisal, sickness, and absence management.

Experience

Essential

  • Band 6 level experience in a neonatal unit.
  • Neonatal Advanced life support training.
  • Ability to manage staff and manage a change in service.
  • Ability to manage own and other peoples time effectively.
  • Recognised management or leadership qualification.

Desirable

  • Community Experience.
  • Knowledge of staff appraisal.
  • Understanding of HR policies and processes.
  • Experience of managing conflict.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Evidence of practice or policy change arising from audit.
  • Evidence of practice development

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledgeable practitioner in neonatal nursing
  • Ability to apply evidence-based practice.
  • Awareness and understanding of currently neonatal issues in relation to Transitional Care.
  • Knowledge of clinical governance and commitment to develop a team.

Desirable

  • Evidence of change management.
  • Evidence of multiagency and regional working.
