Job summary

Medicare EMS are welcoming applications for a fulltime vehicle technician to support the maintenance of our frontline and event ambulances.

The role of the vehicle technician is an essential role to maintain our frontline and event fleet.

Main duties of the job

Our vehicle technicians are a fundamental part of our business and ensure that our frontline and event fleet have pre-planned maintenance, servicing, health checks and repairs completed safely and within a timely manner. This includes unplanned repairs that require attention to ensure the vehicles are road worthy and operational.

You will be responsible for diagnosing faults and issue with the vehicles and forming an appropriate plan to remedy the fault, order the parts required and update the operational management team on the status of the fleet.

Our vehicle technicians are required to carry out pre-MOT checks to identify any potential MOT failures to avoid any unnecessary delays obtaining MOTs across the fleet.

We have four frontline operational bases which you will be required to attend as part of your role.

We hold a variety of contracts across the UK. Our events portfolio includes The O2 Arena, Tottenham Hotspurs Football Stadium, Wembley Stadium, Wembley Arena, and Manchester Arena. We have 36 racecourses across the UK and two frontline contracts with NHS Ambulance Services.

Job responsibilities

  1. Responsible for carrying out routine servicing, preventative maintenance, vehicle checks and repairs.
  2. Responsible for unplanned repairs and maintenance to ensure our fleet is road worthy and operational.
  3. Undertake minor body work repairs and electrical repairs as required.
  4. Change and repair tyres.
  5. Carry our pre-MOT checks and/or MOT repairs as required.
  6. Utilisation of computerised diagnostic equipment to assist in the diagnosing of vehicle faults.
  7. Ensure the company is getting value for money by researching the most effective suppliers for parts, synthetics etc.
  8. Ensure all vehicles are MOT'ed and Tax at all times using our fleet maintenance system.
  9. Managing your own workload to ensure the vehicles are operational and roadworthy.
  10. Ensuring accurate record keeping by completing job cards for each repair, check and service.
  11. Ensuring our vehicle defect reports are addressed in a timely manner, actioned and closed.
  12. Responsible for the maintain compliance with all statutory requirements relating to the disposal of waste produced as a result of the activities of the vehicle, this includes waste oil, oil filters, brake fluid, batteries, waste paint products etc.
  13. Occasionally attending breakdown call out as an when required.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full UK Driving licence with no more than 3 penalty points.
  • IMI Level 3 Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of procedures for mechanical/electrical maintenance and repair to BTEC/HNC, or City and Guilds, plus relevant training or equivalent.

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive post apprenticeship experience in vehicle mechanical engineering
  • Experience working in a dynamic and busy environment.

Desirable

  • Experience working in the ambulance service setting.
  • Experience working on Renault Masters
