Job summary

The Specialty Medicine Directorate are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and suitably experienced Waiting List Officer to support the Directorate across three sites.

The successful candidate will be required to work on their own initiative and demonstrate excellent communication & analytical skills.

A good understanding of the principles of Referral to Treatment Time (RTT) is required and an empathetic approach to customer care.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for the validation of Referral to Tratment Time (RTT) pathways and Follow Up Not Booked (FUNB) performance. The post holder will update the WPAS system to reflect accurate patient pathways.

The post holder will assist the Directorate Management Team by monitoring targets in RTT, Cancer, FUNB and Medicine Performance, escalating issues appropriately.

Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ Level 3 in a relevant subject, or possess skills, knowledge and experience to equivalency.
  • In depth knowledge of clinical pathways and medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of Patient Administration System (WPAS).
  • Knowledge and good understanding of RTT Guidelines and Pathway Management.
  • Knowledge of data protection and confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of NHS performance targets.

Desirable

  • NVQ level 3 Business and Administration.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working as a medical secretary in a medicine discipline or similar medical administrative role.
  • Experience of patient pathway management including outcomes, activity, application of non WPAS events.
  • Experience of WPAS inpatient/day case waiting list modules.
  • Experience of WCP.

Desirable

  • Experience of using HICSS.

Ability

Essential

  • Good organisational and time management skills.
  • Working to tight deadlines, able to determine priorities.
  • Deal with enquiries from patients and their carers using tact and diplomacy.
  • Able to adapt to changing priorities, with frequent interruptions.
  • Must be able to work alone or as part of a team.
  • Advanced keyboard skills.

Desirable

  • The ability to speak or learn Welsh to a satisfactory level.
