As a Ward Support Volunteer, based on one of our wards assisting with non-clinical tasks.
This role involves but is not limited to:
Meeting and Greeting patients and visitors when they arrive on the ward.
Helping patients complete Friends and Family feedback forms.
Taking samples to the labs when requested by staff.
Taking and collecting prescriptions to the pharmacy.
Assisting ward clerks with filing and answering the telephone/door system
Sitting and talking to patients when appropriate.
Assisting the ward staff with meal distribution at meal times to ensure a quick, safe meal service (NB - not assisting patients with feeding).
Helping patients cut up food, clearing meal trays
Making and providing refreshments for patients and families
Photocopy, laminate and support with putting up ward displays
Escort families to other departments within the hospital i.e. x-ray
Supporting staff with general ward housekeeping
Companionship for patients who may not have visitors.
To undertake any other duties that may be appropriate in respect of a Ward Support Volunteer.
Volunteering shifts are available on weekdays, evenings, and weekends.
Main duties of the job
Our minimum age requirement is 18 years Skills
Ability to communicate with all groups of people, able to listen and follow instructions
Able to work alongside ward staff and other volunteers as part of a team or on their own.
An Enhanced DBS is required for volunteers on our Childrens wards
Training will be provided
