Job summary
We are looking for a Youth Engagement Worker to play a key role in the development and implementation of a whole-school approach to mental health and wellbeing, in line with DfE guidance. This role will integrate youth work principles with mental health support, ensuring that all students receive timely, accessible, and effective interventions that promote emotional resilience and wellbeing.
The postholder will work closely with the Counselling & Wellbeing Manager, Head of Medical Health & Welfare, pastoral teams, and external agencies to coordinate, deliver, and evaluate mental health interventions. They will also lead student engagement initiatives, facilitate peer mentoring, and provide one-on-one support to students experiencing low-level mental health difficulties.
This role is offered on afull-time/year round basis working 37.5 hours a week over 5 days, with annual leave entitlement of 26 days plus Bank Holidays:
Alternatively the role can be offered on a full-time, term time plus contract prorated to 36 working weeks a year, plus 4.35 weeks of paid holiday to be taken outside of term time.
Service needs may include some evening and weekend work.
Main duties of the job
Mental Health & Wellbeing Coordination
Implement a whole-school approach to emotional health, collaborating with staff to embed mental health awareness into school culture.
Audit current provision and evaluate interventions to ensure evidence-based and student-centred support.
Develop and maintain clear referral pathways to escalate concerns appropriately (e.g. to the Counselling & Wellbeing Manager, Safeguarding, CAMHS, or external services).
Student Support & Early Intervention
Act as a frontline support for students experiencing mental health and wellbeing challenges.
Provide one-on-one mentoring and support sessions for students (two mornings/days a week - as service requires).
Facilitate early intervention strategies, identifying at-risk students and implementing preventative measures.
Training & Capacity Building
Develop and deliver staff training in mental health first aid and mental health awareness.
Assist in reviewing and improving the PSHE and RSE curriculum to ensure mental health and emotional resilience are fully integrated.
Mental Health Awareness & Student Engagement
Organise mental health awareness campaigns and wellbeing events across the College - creating an annual programme of events

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
- Level 3-4 qualification in Youth Work, Mental Health, Counselling, or a related field.
- Experience working with young people in a mental health or wellbeing support role.
- Strong knowledge of mental health first aid, safeguarding, and early intervention strategies.
- Ability to work collaboratively with school staff, multidisciplinary teams, and external agencies.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students.
Desirable
- Additional training in CBT, trauma-informed practice, or counselling skills.
- Experience in delivering workshops, training, and awareness campaigns.
- Knowledge of the DfE Whole-School Approach to Mental Health and Wellbeing.
