Location: Northallerton

Salary: £12.21 per hour

Contract: Fixed-term for 3 years

Hours: Approximately 40 hours per week, working mainly Monday to Friday

Qualification: Motor Vehicle Service & Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship (Level 3)

Join NY Highways as an Apprentice and receive comprehensive training and support to develop your skills. With our large fleet, you'll learn the latest techniques in servicing and maintenance, ensuring safety standards are met for services, MOTs, and repairs.

This role involves working with a wide range of vehicles, requiring technicians to be adaptable. Effective teamwork and communication are essential for success.

We seek someone with a genuine interest in how vehicles work, strong analytical and mechanical skills, and the ability to research, analyse, and solve problems. You should be organised, methodical, and detail-oriented, with good spatial awareness. You must demonstrate effective teamwork, communicate well, and be committed to delivering exceptional service.

Day to day tasks will vary but include:

  • Servicing - Carrying out complete vehicle and tyre checks
  • MOT - Assisting to identify parts with wear and tear
  • Vehicle Maintenance - Replacing and repairing engine and other working parts
  • Diagnostics - Using the latest diagnostic equipment to investigate vehicle faults

In this role, you will develop a variety of skills and responsibilities. You'll use diagnostic, mechanical, and electrical measuring equipment to identify vehicle faults and their root causes. You'll inspect and prepare vehicles for mechanical work, ensuring they meet required standards. You'll learn to follow Health and Safety processes, update job cards, provide quotations and estimates, and deliver excellent customer service.

You must by over the age of 16, have attained or be working towards obtaining a full UK Driving Licence, and have GCSE grades 9*- 4 (A-C) in English and Maths. If not, you must achieve this level before the end-point assessment.

Joining us before the learning starts in August/September 2025, you can expect a mix of both practical work and theory-based learning at college.

These roles require operating machinery on public highways and/or driving vehicles regularly. NY Highways prioritises the health and safety of employees and the public. Successful candidates will undergo alcohol and drugs testing as part of the recruitment process and during employment.
